broken box office records with the biggest opening weekend ever, bringing in 532.5 million dollars. Pretty impressive for a movie that is eighth in a series that has been around for sixteen years. Considering it's been in theaters less than a week, its safe to say that there should be plenty more where that came from.

The franchise has certainly had its ups and downs. From the death of Kurt Russell. As to what comes after movie number nine, it generally comes down to three things in the movie making business: what ideas the filmmakers have, whether the stars wish to continue, and are they still making a profit.

Well, in an interview with Collider, producer Neal Moritz explained exactly what the plan is in regards to more The Fast and the Furious movies:

"We kind of have the ending point of the franchise, but we don’t know the in-betweens yet... Yeah, the plan is to make two more movies. That’s just all of us kind of putting our heads together and coming together with something that we think is very special."

Two more movies will of course end the series at ten, though there has been talk of a the start of a new trilogy within the series. There is no word yet on whether the actors are officially all attached to both remaining films in the current series, though Moritz did speak as to Charlize Theron's villain Cipher, and whether they would like to see her return:

"The honest answer is yes. We would love [her] to be involved in the next couple of films. 100%."

One has to wonder whether the studio will want the movies to continue after the tenth film, since they are clearly so successful. Perhaps the rumored Luke Hobbs spin-off will be enough to satisfy that need. Or at some point down the line there could be an attempt to revive The Fast and the Furious franchise with new characters. Only time will tell.
