FBI: International season 4 has undergone a major change with Jesse Lee Soffer's Wes Mitchell replacing Scott Forrester as Fly Team Leader. The series continues to explore fresh storylines in its new era, exemplified by Special Agent Tate stepping into the field. "The Unwinnable War" sees Amanda go on her first undercover assignment to expose a corrupt DEA agent. With much of her work taking place behind a desk, season 4, episode 4 allows the intelligence analyst to showcase her range of skills.

Tate's mission is successful, proving she has more to offer the team than technical expertise. However, while it's clear that the agent is interested in fieldwork, any desire to change career paths is overshadowed by her commitment to Lili. Christina Wolfe shares that Amanda will continue to prioritize motherhood above all else, but her desire to have a more active role remains an internal conflict throughout the season.

ScreenRant interviews Wolfe about Tate's first undercover mission in FBI: International season 4, her character's working relationship with Wes, and which agent she'd like to share the screen with in a potential crossover.

Tate's Daughter Continues To Be Her Priority In FBI: International Season 4

"She's emotionally involved in the cases, but at the same time, she has her daughter and another life that she's trying to protect."

Christina Wolfe as Special Agent Amanda Tate and Bobby Soto as Agent Daniel Lopez in FBI: International season 4, episode 4.

ScreenRant: Episode 4 was a huge one for Tate. What were your initial thoughts when you first read the script?

Christina Wolfe: Oh, I just loved it. I think I messaged Wade right after reading it like, "Wow, this is such an amazing episode." I just felt so privileged to have been given this adventure to play out on screen.

With this being Tate's first undercover mission, what was it like to play a character you've come to know so well, while she's, essentially, playing a character herself?

Christina Wolfe: It was just amazing. Undercover is a whole different ballgame, especially because she doesn't have any training in being undercover. So, in a sense, me and Tate were both doing something new and in tandem. It was really fun. I really enjoyed the experience of it.

Tate took a lot of risks during this case. Going back to her conversation with Vo, do you think she felt like she had to prove something to herself and the team?

Christina Wolfe: Absolutely. I'm not sure if this was the final draft, but she says, "I have a chip on my shoulder, I guess. Tell me I can't do something, and I'm going to do it." I think that that's driving her. She really wants to prove to herself and to the team that she can step up to the mark when it matters.

This episode is a testament to how great Tate is at fieldwork, which Wes even says himself. Will she have any internal struggles about wanting to do more, but also wanting to prioritize her daughter?

Christina Wolfe: Yeah, I think that's her main conflict. Her main internal conflict is that she loves her job, she's really good at it, and she knows that. It gives her a sense of empowerment, and she fights for justice, and she's emotionally involved in the cases, but at the same time, she has her daughter and another life that she's trying to protect.

So at the end of the episode, she says, "I think I'm okay where I am, for now," because she knows herself and there is this impulsive part of her that she knows is always going to be there. I don't think that's going anywhere. I think she's going to want to go out in the field again at some point when it's right, but it has to be right. I think that variables have to be in place for her to accept another case in the field.

Tate Has Earned Mitchell's Trust In FBI: International Season 4, Says Wolfe

"They seem to work really well together, and I feel like there's a lot of mutual respect there."

Lili notices how happy Tate is during the final scene of the episode. Where would you say that happiness stems from?

Christina Wolfe: I think that was happiness at the fact that it worked out, and she's safe, and she's grateful to be back with her daughter. But I think that there's also a pride in what she's done. When you are living out your purpose, and you're in your flow, I think she really has that in work, and she's happy because she's able to express, and she's able to inhabit this part of her that is so important to her.

Do you want Tate to go out in the field more and balance that with her tech work?

Christina Wolfe: I love both. I really love how she works in the hub and how she manages that team. She's completely in her element in that side of things. I love playing that element of her character. I would also love to go back in the field, so a balance would be perfect. That would be ideal—to be able to do both.

How would you say Wes’ leadership is different from Forrester’s and what kind of impact do you think that has on Tate and the team?

Christina Wolfe: I think anyone coming into a new position like this, as a leader, there's going to be some trepidation within the team. Is it the right fit and everything? I think, particularly with Smitty, you see that. But I think Amanda is very happy to welcome him with open arms because they so desperately need a leader after Forrester's departure, and he does a really good job of filling in and leading this team to solve more cases.

Wes showed a lot of belief in Tate. How do you feel about the working relationship that they've built so far?

Christina Wolfe: I think so far so good. They seem to work really well together, and I feel like there's a lot of mutual respect there. Tate definitely feels like she needs to earn his trust, which I think she has done by the end of this episode, so I'd say that their relationship is solid.

Wolfe Teases Tate's FBI: International Storyline

"What she really needs to do this season is try and balance her life."

Christina Wolfe as Special Agent Amanda Tate in FBI: International season 4, episode 4.

Is there a character from FBI or FBI: Most Wanted that you'd like Tate to interact with in future crossovers?

Christina Wolfe: I absolutely loved working with Jeremy Sisto, so I'd be very happy for him to come back, or for Tate to go out and work in the office in FBI. They have kind of a similar job, don't they? So for them to interact would be really, really cool.

We're still early in the season, so how would you describe the trajectory of Tate's storyline?

Christina Wolfe: This season, she is not new anymore. She ed last season, so now she's more established in her role. I think there's a sense of confidence and pride in her work, and she's growing into this very brave character. What she really needs to do in this season is try and balance her life so that she doesn't feel like she's having to choose home or work—find a way to be at peace with the fact that she has this job, and she has a daughter.

There's so much left to learn about Tate. Are there any questions you have about the character that you would like answered?

Christina Wolfe: Yeah. I'm always interested to see how relationships evolve and see how relationships with the team evolve. That's always interesting for me. And, also, anything to do with backstory is always very interesting as an actor—to see how you can weave that into the person that she is now.
