Over the years, Final Fantasy 7: the Emerald Weapon. It's just one of the many ways FF14 is paying respects to past Final Fantasy games.

The Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald Weapons were a memorable part of the original Final Fantasy 7. Whether the Ruby Weapon and Emerald Weapon fight was more difficult is still debated within the fandom, as those were two of the hardest bosses in the entire game. When Patch 5.4 of FF14 arrives on December 8th, players can take on these classic bosses once again.

The Ruby Weapon was already a previous fight in FF14, as players could take it on in the Cinder Drift. This Trial was one of the hardest in the game when it released in Shadowbringers earlier this year. The Sapphire Weapon also became a fight in FF14, and it seems the trifecta is complete now that the Emerald Weapon is coming to Final Fantasy 14 next week.

Why FF7's Emerald Weapon Is In Final Fantasy 14

The world of Final Fantasy 14 already has its fair share of technology within its high fantasy setting, so it's not completely surprising to see Emerald Weapon here. From the beginning, Magitek Armor from FF6 was featured prominently in the MMO, and players even unlocked their own mount upon beating the base game. FF14's Garlean Empire has a lot of technology at its disposal, so it only makes sense that FF7's Emerald Weapon, much like the Ruby Weapon, could be one of the new superweapons from Garlemald.

The Emerald Weapon is just the latest of many crossovers FF14 has done over the years, including a few outside the Final Fantasy franchise - like crossovers with Dragon Quest, NieR, and even Yo-Kai Watch. To fight the Emerald Weapon in FF14: Shadowbringers, players will have to unlock the Castrum Marinum Trial. A party of eight will fight against the Emerald Weapon, although FF7 fans shouldn't expect the fight to go exactly like the original one. While the Emerald Weapon is definitely based on the classic FF7 boss, it will have new attacks and moves - just like Ruby Weapon did.

With the popularity of Final Fantasy 7 and the FF7 Remake, it makes sense that Final Fantasy 14: Shadowbringers would want to use some of the game's classic locations (like the Gold Saucer) and bosses like the Emerald Weapon. Patch 5.4 is scheduled for December 8th, so brave adventurers can take on the Emerald Weapon for themselves very soon.
