Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has the opportunity to truly bring to life the characters of the original Final Fantasy 7 game. With so much more content and exploration into the deeper relationships between the characters, there are far more scenes with outstanding dialogue and memorable quotes, and Tifa Lockhart stands out in particular.
Tifa is a character with numerous notable scenes where her words stick with the player due to her likable nature and connection with the rest of the party. Sometimes they are goofy and fun, sometimes they are compelling. Tifa's insight into the story behind the curtain of Cloud's altered perspective gives more meaning to some of her quotes, where on the surface they may appear unremarkable, but when paired with her emotion and expression, open up whole new meaings.
10 "You Promised You'd Save Me... If I Was Ever Trapped... Or In Trouble..."
Nibelheim
When Cloud Strife and Tifa were children in Nibelheim, Cloud opened up about his dream of becoming a great member of SOLDIER. It was a heartwarming moment of bonding between the two future heroes of FF7 and cemented their friendship, as well as Cloud's apprehension of returning to Nibelheim without achieving his ambition. Even if he had not yet reached SOLDIER First Class, his promise to Tifa still held weight.
After Sephiroth struck Tifa down and continued through the reactor to meet his mother, Jenova, Cloud finds Tifa and carries her to safety. This reminder of their promise shows that even if they parted ways to chase their own dreams, the bond they created at the well all those years ago was something to cherish. Her reiterating of the promise spurred Cloud on to challenge his former mentor.
9 "Ribbit Ribbit Ribbit"
Under Junon
While Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is full of dramatic and tragic moments, there is still ample time for the party to enjoy missions with fewer world-ending stakes. In the side-quest "Calling All Frogs," Cloud is tasked with removing all the enemies in the area, so the children can continue to play under Junon. A simple quest on the surface, but with the magic turning him into a frog, the quest becomes a lot more entertaining.
Tifa's mockery of Clouds transformation reminds the player of their bond, not only being about saving the world, but also a comfortable friendship. Cloud is not embarrassed by Tifa repeating the word "ribbit" over and over. It is a moment of levity in a tumultuous time. With all the multi-verse escapades, the march to the reunion and saving the world from Shinra, a moment of true jovial friendship speaks to the connection the party has.
8 "No! Don't Take Him Too!"
Inside A Weapon
A major change from the original Final Fantasy 7 was Tifa's Journey through the lifestream. It showed the player moments of Tifa's past with Cloud, the promise between them and her ideal of what a hero should be. Within the stomach of a Weapon, Sephiroth strikes and almost pierces Tifa. She survives, visualizing people from her past and Cloud walking away from her, following Sephiroth. The scenes are full of subtle hints to the future and homage to Tifa's journey into Cloud's mind in the original game.
Tifa's cry for Cloud to remain is the fear of his fragile mind breaking even more than it already has. What Tifa does not realize, due to her focus on Cloud, is the importance she plays in the story just as much as him. Doctor Sheiran points out that many depend on Tifa, something she has struggled with in the past. Sephiroth views Tifa and the connection she shares with Cloud as a threat, and this quote shows the length Sephiroth is willing to go to drive a wedge between them.
7 "And Look... Locals. Only They Aren't Quite The Same, Are They?"
Nibelheim
The destruction of Nibelheim is seared into the minds of both Tifa and Cloud. Upon their return, Shinra seemingly rebuilt it without any indication of Sephiroth's rampage. The locals knew nothing of the dreadful event, feigning ignorant bliss. This did not escape Tifa's notice, knowing full well just how utterly devastating the night Sephiroth set the town ablaze was. Everything may have been rebuilt exactly as it was, but the uncanny feeling does not escape Tifa.
Her mentioning of the locals being not quite the same feels to have a double meaning. She is well aware how many people died in the attack, but is also cognizant of Cloud's mising of the past. Unlike the perplexed Cloud, Tifa displays an expression of sadness. The spiral of lies and confusion that surrounds Cloud, Tifa and Nibelheim is only heightened by the fabricated reconstruction. A subtle hint that she knows more than she lets on and is weighing up Cloud's reaction, wishing to protect his mind out of love.
6 "Cloud! You A**hole!"
Kalm
Cloud takes a moment of respite in the Village of Kalm to tell the party of how he worked alongside Sephiroth as a member of SOLDIER. Tifa and the rest listen to how he looked up to Sephiroth as a war hero, how Sephiroth turned due to his investigation into Hojo's experimentation and finally how the fire of Nibelheim erupted. The story is full of questions and interruptions from the party, but one from Tifa, and Aeirth, stand out in particular.
For a man or few words, Cloud offers precise insight into his actions during his snooping in every house in Nibelheim. Seeing as Cloud is under the control of a player, it is only natural for the player to want to investigate every nook and cranny that can be explored in Nibelheim. Cloud felt it necessary to tell the party of his blatant disregard for Tifa's privacy when searching in her bedroom and going through her closets. It was something he could have kept to himself, but players would have missed out on Tifa calling him out.
5 "When The Rest Of Them Ran, You Were There For Me. You Stayed When I Needed You Most. If That's Not A Hero... Then I Don't Know What Is."
Gongaga
There are two major love interests in Cloud's life - Aerith and Tifa. While Cloud has an instant connection with Aerith, Tifa has been a relatively stable rock throughout his life, even if he cannot everything clearly. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth delves further into Tifa and Cloud's romantic connection than that of the original's narrative, and even gives the player more freedom to pursue their undeniable attraction. With the improved graphics, Tifa's longing stares and Cloud's awkward glances are far more apparent.
In Gongaga, Tifa and Cloud reminisce about Tifa's brush with death while fooling around on Mt. Nibel. It is during this conversation of how she viewed Cloud as a hero, even as a child, that she truly shows just how long her feelings for him have grown and strengthened over the years. No matter how negatively Cloud views himself, how many times he puts down his innate heroic nature, Tifa is there to remind him that when everyone else fled, he stayed with her. Deep down, no matter how much Sephiroth manipulates Cloud, he started off as that young hero.
4 "Though At Least With A Steel Sky You Know Your Limits. Out Here... It's Endless."
Leaving Midgar
To anyone who lives under the plates of Midgar, the metal sky is all they know. The slums of Sector 7, where Tifa made her home after leaving Nibelheim, are always shrouded in darkness. While Tifa once lived under the real sky, others under Shinra's boots know only the false beams of light pretending to be the sun or the murky, black metal of the upper levels above. Leaving Midgar allowed Tifa to familiarize herself with what she had forgotten.
What makes this moment extra meaningful is the current direction of Tifa's life. Alongside Barret and AVALANCHE, Tifa wishes to disrupt and bring down the Shinra Corporation for its abuse of the planet. It was a hefty goal, but it was confined to the streets of Midgar. Everything within its boundaries was the battleground and bringing down Shinra HQ was a way to end the war. Outside the city limits, the world and the game itself become far larger. Everything seems smaller when one cannot see the stars.
3 "For The Longest Time, I Wanted To Do... Everything. I Wanted To Fight For The Planet, Convince People To Stand Up - Take Action With Us... But It's Like... I Always Come Up Short."
Gold Saucer
When Tifa and Cloud are searching the Gold Saucer for Dio, Tifa is struck by a moment of self reflection. The people of Gold Saucer are oblivious to the horror of war soon to begin around them. As Cloud rightly puts it, people believe war is always someone else's problem. This sparks Tifa to look inward at herself and the choices she has made. Seeing how others do not act until they are forced reminded her of how she wanted to be different.

FF7 Rebirth: When Can You Return & Do The Dates At The Gold Saucer?
The first trip to the Gold Saucer in FF7 Rebirth gets cut unfortunately short, but that isn't the end for Cloud's chances at an amusement park date.
Tifa's moment of honesty showed her desire to be active rather than reactive. She saw what Shinra had done in Nibelheim and wanted to fight against such a powerful, tyrannical corporation. The life of the planet was what happened, yet she found herself lacking the drive to take the mantle of leader upon herself. Characters like Barret Wallace have an innate drive to fight, and it took Tifa time to discover it herself, of which Cloud reminds her. She does have what it takes to save the planet.
2 "You Offer Any More People As Prizes, They'll Have To Scrape You Off My Shoe. Got It?"
Corel
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth includes far more content than that of its original counterpart, offering further insight into the minor world areas and into side characters. Gus is a recreation of a character from the original named Coates and is given a far more antagonizing role for the protagonists to interact with. So much so, that Tifa takes it upon herself to kick him squarely in the stomach and show him exactly who is boss.
Tifa is a multidimensional character with complicated but meaningful relationships with the entirety of the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth party. She may act as a voice of reason for the more brash Barret or a ing shoulder for the brooding Cloud numerous times through the game's runtime, but when it comes down to it, Tifa's anger is enough to make anyone shudder. This moment of no nonsense, kick first, asks questions later Tifa does not pop up all the time but, when it does, it is always a reminder of just how strong she is.
1 "Sephiroth... SOLDIERs... Mako... Shinra... I'm Sick Of This! I'm Sick Of All Of This!"
Nibelheim
One of the most memorable moments in both the original Final Fantasy 7 and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is Sephiroth's attack on Nibelheim. It sets the stage for the conflict between Cloud and Sephiroth, explores the friendship and strain between Tifa and Cloud, and also spins a tale for the player to spend the rest of the game unraveling. Among the recognizable moments, few came close to the moment Tifa found the body of her father and announced her true feelings.
Tifa was never blind to the reality of the world, only a bit naive, as all young people are at one point in their lives. Once she witnessed the collateral damage caused by Shinra's disregard for human life, she could no longer sit back and watch as people and the planet suffered around her. Moments before Tifa took up Sephiroth's discarded sword and sought to challenge him, she screamed how sick of the way of the world she was. From then on, she was intent on being a force for good to change the world for the better in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and the original game.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is the sequel to Final Fantasy 7 Remake and will see Cloud and his friends set off beyond the walls of Midgar to explore the world, stop Sephiroth's machinations, and see the world outside their slum prison. Now that the whispers of fate no longer guide the characters along the pre-destined path set in the original PlayStation classic Final Fantasy 7, the heroes (and villains) will shape the future. The game will still visit prominent locales and revisit crucial story points, but it will be a more significant departure from the first game from the source material.
