Since Final Fantasy 7 Remake released last year, countless fan theories have surfaced and attempted to explain some of the mysteries of the game's plot. One of the fan theories that makes a lot of sense actually goes back to the original FF7. This theory posits that the Knights of the Round were actually Cetra - but could that really be true?

In the original Final Fantasy 7, Knights of the Round was the best summon in the game. Although it took quite a bit of work to get, using the Knights of the Round Materia in the final battle has become a go-to strategy for many players. The lengthy summoning animation is iconic, and many people who played FF7 when it was new still the summon fondly to this day.

Since then, the Knights of the Round have appeared in Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward (although, in a slightly different way) and it's one of the original Materia fans would love to see in Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2. However, a fan theory regarding the Knights of the Round says that these heroic individuals are more than just a fancy way to take down Safer Sephiroth quickly in the original FF7. In fact, according to the theory, the Knights of the Round are Cetra who play an important role in protecting the world and its inhabitants.

FF7's Knights Of The Round Fan Theory Explained

The Knights of the Round, Final Fantasy VII

The theory, which stems from the original Final Fantasy 7, is that the Knights of the Round are actually Cetra. The Cetra, or Ancients, were a spiritual and nomadic people who lived on FF7's planet of Gaia many years before the main events of the game. So, it makes sense that the Knights of the Round are of that race. The fan theory goes on to suggest that it was the Knights of the Round who first defeated Jenova.

If the Knights of the Round originally defeated Jenova, it could explain why they one-hit kill the Jenova-SYNTHESIS boss toward the end of Final Fantasy 7. And since it's explained that the Cetra banded together to defeat Jenova the first time, players have understandably connected the dots to explain that the Knights were a part of that ancient race. Taking it a bit further, the Knights then ed the Lifestream in order to become Materia. This way, if Jenova ever returned, there would be a way for them to aid future generations in defeating Jenova once again.

This fan theory actually makes a lot of sense, even though it's never been officially confirmed. The Knights of the Round will surely return at some point in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake games, so perhaps this fan theory will be proven correct soon.
