Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Final Destination Bloodlines & Final Destination 3!
2025's new to Final Destination, Final Destination Bloodlines does lift one dynamic from a previous movie.
Final Destination Bloodlines has finally brought back the beloved horror franchise for the first time since 2011's Final Destination 5, and its return was fantastic. Although the previous movies were tongue-in-cheek, Final Destination Bloodlines is the franchise's most comedic entry yet. Some critics and fans have claimed that Final Destination Bloodlines is the best Final Destination movie thanks to its unique story and tone. While these aspects are great, one of the best parts of its story comes from Final Destination 3.
Final Destination Bloodlines & Final Destination 3 Focused On A Pair Of Siblings Accepting Death
Final Destination Bloodlines Focuses On This Dynamic Even More
The family dynamic in Final Destination Bloodlines is what makes the movie so special, and part of this comes from Final Destination 3's sibling dynamic. Two of the main characters in Final Destination 3 are sisters, those being Mary Elizabeth Winstead's Wendy Christensen and Amanda Crew's Julie Christensen. They both have to figure out how to survive Death together, which is a ton of fun. Their sibling dynamic added a lot to the story, as they actually cared about each other rather than just being strangers or acquaintances.
Final Destination Bloodlines actually does this twice, with two pairs of siblings being wrapped up in Death's game. The first are the main characters, Stefani Reyes and Charlie Reyes. The story is mainly focused on their struggle to survive, and their sibling dynamic makes this journey far more interesting. Brothers Erik and Bobby Campbell are also on Death's hit list in Final Destination Bloodlines, and their more comedic take on the Final Destination 3 sibling dynamic is one of the highlights of the movie.
Final Destination Bloodlines Director Confirms The Third Installment Inspired That Storyline
Thanks To The Sister Storyline
Interestingly, this connection to Final Destination 3 is not just speculation. Final Destination Bloodlines co-director Adam Stein discussed the inspirations for the film in an interview with Slash Film, directly citing Final Destination 3's sibling dynamic. According to the director, the sibling dynamic instantly made him more interested in the characters in Final Destination 3. Thus, he decided to lift this element for his take on the Final Destination franchise. Here are his full comments:
One of the inspirations was "Final Destination 3." And that relationship between Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Amanda Crew being sisters in that movie, I always felt like I cared much more when it came down to them. And it felt like, "Wow, if we can do a whole movie of that, and really feel the urgency?" It's not just someone dies, and the stranger turns to the other group of strangers and says, "Okay, who's next?" It's, "Oh my God, we're grief-stricken, but we can't even be in our grief because we have to urgently protect each other." So that was a really amazing opportunity.
And also, exploring the depth of a family — having grudges that you don't talk about, having secrets that the family has never revealed to each other, having family who are distant — and then in the process of avoiding death, they all become closer. It was a really interesting structure, that a fractured family can come together while also running from death. So that was a really interesting way to kind of sink our teeth into the story.

Final Destination 7: Will It Happen? Everything We Know
Final Destination 7 is on the table, and there are many clues about whether the sequel to 2025's Bloodlines will happen and what it could look like.
The broader family dynamics were also something that interested him. As is seen in the sixth film, the characters are forced to quickly grieve the deaths of their family , as they know that the next one could die at any moment. Death's plan also forces family secrets to be revealed and family dynamics to evolve, creating a more complex story. This is what made Final Destination Bloodlines' characters so memorable, with it definitely evolving the sibling dynamic from Final Destination 3.
Final Destination Bloodlines Approaches This Story Device In A Better Way
It Is Treated As The Premise Rather Than A Twist
In Final Destination 3, the reveal that Julie was involved was treated as a twist, with Wendy not realizing this until near the end of the film. Having the family story present from the very beginning was a much better choice, with it acting as the premise of the movie rather than a reveal. This story is developed far more in Final Destination Bloodlines than it ever was in Final Destination 3, proving that the franchise is willing to evolve.
