The first trailer for the Final Destination saga, which is bringing its sixth movie over a decade after the release of Final Destination 5. Directed by Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein, Final Destination Bloodlines follows the saga's well-known premise but with an interesting twist.

Final Destination Bloodlines follows a college student who begins to be haunted by a series of nightmarish visions of her family's deaths. She returns home to get answers from her grandmother, who, years before, also had a catastrophic vision, but she managed to save some people back then. Although they survived, Death is now going after their families years later, as they shouldn't have been born. Final Destination Bloodlines brings Tony Todd's William Bludworth back, and I hope it finally solves his biggest mystery.

Tony Todd's Character In Final Destination Bloodlines Continues The Franchise's Oldest Mystery

William Bludworth Became The Franchise’s Biggest Mystery

Tony Todd's William Bludworth is the connecting link between the Final Destination movies and is the only character who has appeared in almost every movie. Bludworth makes his first appearance in Final Destination when Alex (Devon Sawa) and Clear (Ali Larter) sneak into a funeral home to take a look at their friend's body after his bizarre death. Bludworth tells them that Death doesn't like to be cheated, and lets them know about Death's design, though without revealing much about it.

Bludworth returns in Final Destination 2, also in a minor role, and this time, he reveals that new life can defeat Death, but this is initially interpreted differently by the characters. Bludworth skips a physical appearance in Final Destination 3 and The Final Destination, but his voice is heard in a Satan animatronic in the third movie. Bludworth appears again in Final Destination 5, where he reveals that by taking a life they could live, and would take the lifespan of the person they killed.

The biggest mystery about him is how and why he knows so much about Death, its design, and its rules, and Bludworth’s return in Final Destination Bloodlines continues this.

However, in all these appearances, Final Destination hasn't properly explored the character of Bludworth and his story. The biggest mystery about him is how and why he knows so much about Death, its design, and its rules, and Bludworth’s return in Final Destination Bloodlines continues this. The first Final Destination Bloodlines trailer briefly shows Bludworth, who, once again, is a mysterious presence in the movie, offering advice on how Death could be fooled, but no guarantee that it will be.

Who Is William Bludworth In Final Destination, Really?

Is Bludworth Human Or Supernatural?

The mystery and unanswered questions about William Bludworth and his knowledge of Death have made way for lots of speculation and some fan theories. Although the Final Destination saga has an invisible villain (Death, of course), the mysteries of Bludworth have made some viewers believe he could be a secret villain. Some theories say that Bludworth isn’t a supernatural character and is simply human, but he’s messing with the Final Destination characters and giving them advice that only leads to more deaths, thus making him a villain in disguise.

1 Character Change In Final Destination Saved The Franchise, But Created A Huge Mystery

Final Destination made one key change to one of its main characters in pre-production that saved the franchise but created a huge mystery.

However, the most popular theory or belief about Bludworth says that he’s Death itself. Death appeared as a shadow in two different moments in the first Final Destination, but aside from that, it has never made a physical appearance – unless Bludworth is the personification of Death. This would explain his knowledge of Death, its design, rules, do’s and don’ts, and more, and connects to the above theory as he would be giving the characters misleading advice only to claim more lives.

While this would solve the biggest questions and mysteries of Bludworth, the truth is that there isn’t enough evidence in the Final Destination saga that can the idea of Bludworth being Death. The reality is most likely that Bludworth is just a human, though one who, after years of working with dead bodies and pretty much working close to Death, has learned some valuable information about it.

Will Final Destination Bloodlines Finally Reveal What's Up With William Bludworth?

Bloodlines Is The Final Chance To Solve Bludworth’s Mystery

an open notebook with writing scribbled all over it in Final Destination Bloodlines

Final Destination Bloodlines is exciting because it’s the return to a popular franchise, but also because it’s said to finally solve the mystery of William Bludworth. For a while, Bloodlines has been reported to explore Bludworth’s backstory, which makes sense given that the movie will go back in time to show how the grandma saved many people thanks to her premonition. With this being Tony Todd’s final appearance as Bludworth and his final big-screen performance, it would be perfect if it finally revealed what’s up with Bludworth and where all that knowledge came from.
