An event is going to change what speed actually means for the Flash. The Fastest Man Alive and his allies are about to face off against a swarm of speedster aliens in a battle that takes place in the span of a minute.
Whether it's Barry Allen or Wally West, the Flash is without a doubt DC's living embodiment of speed. Thanks to the powers granted by the unexplainable phenomenon known as the Speed Force, Flash and the rest of the Flash Family can use their speeds to take out some of the most powerful threats in the DC Universe. Even when faced by clever foes such as those in the Rogues or a maniacal speedster like the Reverse-Flash, those who bear the Flash insignia always come out on top. Thanks to their teamwork and outstanding speed, there are few threats that can stand up to the speedy heroes.
But what happens when the Flashes and their partners are faced with an entire army of speedsters? Such as question will be answered in the 2023 Flash event, the 'One-Minute War'. Starting with The Flash #790 by Jeremy Adams and Roger Cruz, a group of aliens connected to the Flash’s Speed Force invade the Earth. The Friction, as they are called, move just as fast as Flash, robbing the speedsters of their best advantage. The name of the arc details the exact length of the battle the heroes are going to undertake. With only sixty seconds, Flashes Wally West and Barry Allen, Kid Flash, and Impulse are going to have to repel the invasion and save the world. The arc will run through January 2023 in The Flash #790, The Flash #791 and The Flash: One-Minute War Special #1.
One Minute Can Change Everything About The Flash
What’s fascinating is that because the Friction move at the same speeds as the Flash Family, the two sides are on equal footing. Speed isn’t what’s going to help Barry, Wally, Wallace and Bart this time. If the team is facing an entire race of speedsters, chances are the Friction have a few tricks up their sleeves that the Flashes don’t. That said, Flashes like Barry and Wally have cracked speeds some can’t even conceive of, and sixty seconds may be all the heroes need to eke out a win.
There’s definitely a novelty in the idea of the Scarlet Speedsters fighting an entire war in the span of a minute. It’s a good reminder that the Flash operates on an entirely different level than the rest of the DCU. Superman is no slouch in the power department, but it’s a good question if he could even hold off on an alien invasion in under just one minute. But speedsters can perceive things at rates other heroes just can’t, making them the perfect heroes to face off against the Friction. What will be the result of the One-Minute War? Fans will have to find out for themselves when it begins in The Flash #790, available January 3rd, 2023.
