Warning: Contains SPOILERS for the series finale of Found.

Much to fans' disappointment, NBC canceled missing-persons drama, Found, ahead of its season 2 finale. The series ends on two massive cliffhangers that left me reeling and in need of immediate answers. Sir is found lying in his prison cell, unresponsive, while Gabi holds a press conference and reveals that she kept him captive in her basement.

After a finale like that, I just can't accept that this is the last we've seen of Mosely & Associates. But while NBC has pulled Found from its lineup, this may not be the end. According to Variety, Warner Bros intends to shop the show to other outlets. The Shanola-Hampton-led series could be picked up by a streaming service or a different network, and we've got all our fingers crossed.

This interview was conducted prior to Found's cancellation.

Sir Is Still Alive At The End Of Found Season 2, Episode 22

Sir in Found season 2, episode 20

ScreenRant: I never thought I'd say this, but I'm worried about Sir. Mark-Paul Gosselaar just plays him so well. He's not definitively dead, correct?

Nkechi Okoro Carroll: As we leave him, no, he is not definitively dead. He is not in great shape, though.

Is there anything you can tease about what actually happened to him?

Nkechi Okoro Carroll: What I can say is who did this to Sir is going to be part of the mystery we will solve in season 3. Fingers crossed. And as is the case with everything Sir and Gabi related, nothing is quite as it seems. No path is a direct one as we get to the answer of what actually happened to Sir.

Gabi tells the world the truth about kidnapping Sir. Last time, Sir denied what happened. What are the stakes now?

Nkechi Okoro Carroll: It's one thing when Sir denies what happened, and it's all internally within the police, and the DA is sort of in charge of choosing whether there's enough there to warrant them actually moving forward with charging someone. It's a whole other thing when a confession is made to the entire country/the world in such an undeniable way, which is why Gabi did it the way she did it.

She's been looking for ways to atone all season. She knows that atoning for her sins is the key to finally unlocking her healing after twenty years of not healing. At every turn she was met with, from Sir's perspective, it was Sir's game plan of keeping her in his grasp, from everyone else's perspective, it was forgiveness and understanding and moving on. But for Gabi, she still wearing some version of a mask for the people she cares about, which is the public, and the forgotten ones, and the people who need her services.

She needed that mask to come off and to finally, finally be herself in order for her healing to take place. And whatever the consequences from that are, she is willing to take. And it is the reason why she actually reclaims her name in the process of her confession and corrects herself. And for the first time, we hear her not call herself Gabi, but actually refer to herself as Gabrielle because she has taken back her name and her power in her name.

Gabi And Trent Need To Become Healthier Versions Of Themselves Before Reconciling

"Any relationship they had wouldn't be a fully healthy one because she wouldn't be coming to it from a healthy place."

Now, it seems like Sir has been blackmailing Trent's father. Is that correct?

Nkechi Okoro Carroll: Well, Sir definitely has a complicated relationship with Trent's father over the course of the season. We have heard him reference that case that Trent's father worked on multiple times. We've had him mention how the Trent family legacy isn't everything that Gabi and Trent think it is.

Even once the case was done, we've heard him continue to needle Trent about the fact that there's more out there and pushing Gabi to find the more that's out there about Trent's family, specifically related to his father. So he definitely has a bee in his bonnet about him. But exactly what it is, people will have to wait for next season to find out.

Trent said in season 2 that he's still in love with Gabi, but their romantic reconciliation hasn't really been a focus. What made you decide to, I don't want to say steer away from it, but prioritize other storylines?

Nkechi Okoro Carroll: We really wanted to authentically portray what is happening between them and what they feel between them. The truth is, Gabi is so messed up right now that any relationship they had wouldn't be a fully healthy one because she wouldn't be coming to it from a healthy place.

Trent, while he does love Gabi, is still trying to reconcile who Gabi is and how that fits into the way he sees the world and his moral com. And it scared him a little bit that he danced around that line quite a fair bit for her. He comes from a family of cops. The badge is important to him.

He's not such as much a big fan of hierarchy as he is about justice and right and wrong. And Gabi blurs that lens a little bit. And so for both of them, they're both coming from a place that they know they have feelings for each other. They know what an amazing thing it could be if the healthy version of both of them got together, but we have to get them to the healthy versions of the both of them.

Found Season 3 Was Meant To Focus On Dhan's Backstory

"Each season is sort of dedicated to one or two [characters] and really going deeper."

Dhan in Found season 2, episode 20

Lena is arrested, but Gabi recognizes that she's also a victim of Sir. Will that play a role in a hopeful season 3?

Nkechi Okoro Carroll: Yeah, it was really important to us that Lena not be a one-dimensional character and someone who has grown up with someone like Sir. We saw what Sir was able to do in just one year of having dominance over Gabi's life, and now you imagine what that must be like for someone who grew up from birth idolizing him and loving him and seeing him as their protector and their savior.

That is something that cannot be undone in the blink of an eye. And it's the reason why Lena makes the choice she makes at the end. Gabi gives her the option, "Go out back. Run. We'll leave you alone, go live your life, break the cycle," and she can't. She still turns around and follows Gabi out to take that shot, even though she's a super smart woman, and somewhere deep down inside her, she had to know it was not going to be that easy, but that's how strong the hold is Sir has on her.

And that's how strong her conditioning is, that now it's, "I have to save Sir from Gabi and from himself if need be." And so that just leaves so much to mine in the future. We love Danielle Savre. She's such a brilliant, brilliant talent. She was such a phenomenal addition to the cast this year, and anything is possible for season 3, but we love her, and we'd love to continue working with her in various capacities.

Dhan seems to be on the path to forgiving Mike. Will we learn more about his time in captivity in season 3? Could we see any flashbacks?

Nkechi Okoro Carroll: Yes. One of the things that is a fabric of the show that we especially enjoy in the writer's room is getting to slowly but surely peel back the layers on each of our characters. All of them, you get a little piece of something every season, but each season is sort of dedicated to one or two of them and really going deeper.

And so yeah, introducing Mike when we did and seeing Dhan have to face that and start to take that journey that would complete his healing is in order for us to dive into his story in a deeper way in season 3.
