Friday Night Lights alum Scott Porter weighs in on whether he'd be willing to return as Jason Street in Peacock's Friday Night Lights reboot. The acclaimed TV series, adapted from the novel "Friday Night Lights" and the 2004 film directed by Peter Berg, aired on NBC for its first two seasons, before shifting to DirectTV's 101 Network for seasons 3-5. Porter played Jason Street, a star quarterback who became a quadriplegic after a tragic accident, in Friday Night Lights seasons 1-3, and he made a return appearance in season 5.

Speaking to Deadline, Scott Porter says he would "100% go back" to West Texas as Jason Street in Peacock's Friday Night Lights reboot, but "only if it serves the story." With Peter Berg returning as executive producer and Jason Katims once more the showrunner of the new Friday Night Lights, Porter is open to working with them again if they want Jason Street back. Read Scott's quote below:

"I loved my time on Friday Night Lights, and I would 100% go back, but only if it serves the story. I trust Pete Berg and Jason Katims and everyone involved that this next chapter of Friday Night Lights is going to be just as special, if not more than what we were able to do,” Porter added. ”I’m looking forward to watching it as a fan, and if they want me back, yeah, I’d love to stop by and say, ‘Texas forever’ once again."

How Jason Street Could Fit Into Peacock's Friday Night Lights Reboot

The Next Chapter Of FNL Will Focus On New Characters

Jason Street left West Texas and moved to New York City to become a sports agent in Friday Night Lights season 3, which took place in 2008. Street had a wife and a successful career when he appeared in Friday Night Lights season 5. If Jason returns in Peacock's Friday Night Lights reboot, he would be in his 40s, and the new show would have to address his eternal friendship with Tim Riggins (Taylor Kitsch). Scott told Deadline:

“I love the way that Jason Street’s story ended. I think his final couple of scenes with Tim [Riggins] in New York tell you everything you need to know, That’s a friendship that will never die, that will always exist. Doesn’t matter, across state lines, anywhere throughout the world, but Jason got out of Dillon in spite of this catastrophic injury.”

Peacock's Friday Night Lights reboot will introduce and focus on new characters carrying on the proud football legacy of the West Dillon Panthers. However, it's natural for audiences to wonder whether FNL's original characters, including Coach Eric Taylor (Kyle Chandler), Tami Taylor (Connie Britton), Tim Riggins, and Matt Saracen (Zach Gilford), would reprise their roles or cameo in the new iteration. After all, if Jason Street returns to Dillon, audiences would want to see him reunite with other familiar faces.

Our Take On Scott Porter Returning As Jason Street In Peacock's Friday Night Lights Reboot

"Texas Forever" Isn't Just A Slogan

Peacock's Friday Night Lights reboot will succeed on the basis of how popular and interesting its new characters are, but older fans who rooted for the West Dillon Panthers (and the East Dillon Lions) in the original FNL show naturally want to see the original cast, including Scott Porter as Jason Street. Friday Night Lights launched the careers of multiple actors, including Michael B. Jordan, Jesse Plemons, Zach Gilford, Jurnee Smollett, Adrianne Palicki, Aimee Teegarden, Taylor Kitsch, and Scott Porter.

Friday Night Lights Ending Explained (In Detail)

Friday Night Lights' ending episode was a poignant farewell to Dillon, Texas, but some stories had ambiguous resolutions in the series finale.

Sadly, one popular Friday Night Lights alum, Minka Kelly, told Deadline that she wouldn't reprise Lyla Garrity in Peacock's reboot series. Meanwhile, Scott Porter has a lead role as Mayor Paul Randolph in Netflix's Ginny & Georgia. Still, it's exciting to hear that Porter would return as Jason Street if Peacock's Friday Night Lights reboot asks him to appear. "Texas Forever" is more than just a slogan for many Friday Night Lights actors who owe their careers to playing for the Dillon Panthers.
