Even while busy bringing the mainline show to a close, Eric Kripke has an exciting update on Gen V season 2 was announced shortly after season 1's premiere, with an intended 2025 premiere date.
With filming having wrapped in October, Kripke took to his Twitter to share an update on Gen V season 2's progress. The Boys creator and franchise boss confirmed that "episodes are done editing" and are in the midst of "music, sound & VFX" editing now, while also promising that it will be "better than season 1". Check out Kripke's post below:
What Kripke's Update Means For Gen V Season 2
The Show Is Still On Track For A 2025 Premiere
Considering filming wrapped on the new episodes in October 2024, it may not come as much of a surprise that Gen V season 2 has made a lot of post-production progress. It also neatly fits with the previous comments from producers behind the show that season 2 would premiere sometime in 2025, as the editing being so far along likely means that it's on track for a Fall 2025 drop. That would also fall in line with season 1's timeline, in which the show premiered just over one year after filming wrapped.

8 Ways The Boys Season 4's Ending Sets Up Gen V Season 2
The Boys season 4 was heavily informed by the events of Gen V, with the finale directly setting up a lot of plot points for Gen V season 2.
As for Kripke's tease of a trailer drop and date announcement coming in the near future, there are a few likely places to which he could be referring. If Gen V season 2 is eyeing a September or October 2025 premiere, San Diego Comic-Con seems like the prime candidate for where Kripke and Prime Video to unveil the first look at the show, as well as its specific release date. It would also fit into Kripke's previous indication that The Boys season 5 will conclude filming around mid 2025, thus giving the streamer a dual drop opportunity at SDCC 2025.
However, with more and more studios looking to drum up online traction, it's also entirely possible Prime Video will unveil Gen V season 2's trailer and premiere date sometime in the next month or so. Though studios don't generally wait until a season is completely put together before releasing marketing materials, if there is still a lot of VFX work to do, as Kripke notes above, it's possible Prime Video wants to make sure the show looks as good as possible before showing it off to audiences.
Our Take On Kripke's Gen V Season 2 Update
A Bold-Yet-Feasible Promise
While the general timeline is an exciting update for the show's return, what sticks out to me is Kripke's promise that Gen V season 2 will be even better than season 1. The Boys spinoff got off to a strong start with a near-perfect 97% approval rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, a very high bar to sur. However, with the mainline Boys show similarly starting on a good note of 85% and growing to 97% in season 2, 98% in season 3 and 92% in season 4, I certainly believe Kripke's praise.
