Gen V scores an early season 2 renewal at Prime Video, weeks before season 1's conclusion. The first live-action spinoff of The Boys focuses on young supes who are tested in battle royal challenges at Godolkin University, fittingly titled God U for short. Given that the institution is run by Vought International, a sinister shadow lives beneath the surface. Consisting of eight episodes, with Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters as showrunners, Gen V has become the number-one series for Prime Video in over 130 countries.

Ahead of the finale on November 3, the official Twitter for Gen V has confirmed that the series will be back for season 2.

In the social media post, the Gen V cast — including Jaz Sinclair, Chance Perdomo, Lizze Broadway, Maddie Phillips, London Thor, Derek Luh, Asa Germann, and Patrick Schwarzenegger — very excitedly reacted to the news.

Why Gen V Is Such A Breath Of Fresh Air

Although there is definitely a desire to see The Boys season 4 finally return, there is no denying that the show has become a little stuck in its ways. The story hasn't meaningfully advanced, other than the introduction of new characters, such as Jensen Ackles' Soldier Boy. Even though the original series is still adept at offering cliffhangers, they tend to mask that the show is reluctant to make any big moves. The Boys season 3 exemplified this, refusing to kill off any major character despite repeatedly teasing the possibility.

Gen V season 2 and beyond may run into the same problems, but even if it does, its teen drama trappings make that possibility a little more tolerable. Except for a few notably loathsome characters, the main Gen V characters are a convincing and compelling package deal. There are echoes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer in how this group of outcasts band together to solve a mystery.

Those echoes of what is widely seen as the best teen drama of all time are reflected in the positive reviews for Gen V. The consensus seems to be that the spinoff accomplishes what it sets out for, being an entertaining and engaging hour or so of television. At a time when so many series aim too high or too low, this renewed spinoff seems to be calibrated exactly right.
