Gnomes can grant magic in The Sims 4

Flour can be used to create a variety of recipes in The Sims 4 Cottage Living. It's important to mention that the food in Sims 4 Cottage Living can be incredibly addicting to Sims. Since it's important to find a balance between healthy food like Sim-grown Oversized Crops, and unhealthy foods like pies and scones, players should pay close attention to how much Flour their Sims eat in a day.

Sims won't be able to grow and grind their own wheat, but there are two different methods to get Flour in The Sims 4 Cottage Living:

  • In-Person: Players can head over to the Fenwick Neighborhood Grocery Market Stall and purchase Flour from there. The benefit of ordering this way is that Sims have an option to haggle with the clerk for a lower price.
  • Delivery: Players can head to their phone or to the fridge and order Flour with the new Grocery Delivery feature. This will just save players time if they have other things their Sims need to do throughout the day. Sims will need to accept the delivery order at the door to get their groceries.

Flour can be used in a variety of new dishes that came with The Sims 4 Cottage Living Expansion Pack. These include:

  • Milk Bread and Lactose-Free Milk Bread
  • Yorkshire Pudding and Lactose-Free Yorkshire Pudding
  • Beef Wellington and Faux-Meat Wellington
  • Blueberry Jam Crumpets
  • Buttered Crumpets
  • Strawberry Jam Crumpets

Because food made with the new Flour and Sugar grocery items in The Sims 4 Cottage Living is addictive, Sims can die quickly if the player isn't careful. While Flour is primarily used in cooking and baking, Sugar is also needed to craft preserves with the new Canning skill in Cottage Living. Additionally, players will need to depend on Flour and Sugar to make sure their Sims don't die from hunger if they choose to play with the Simple Living lot challenge enabled.

Flour & The Simple Living Lot Challenge

Live Off What You Have

In The Sims 4, the expansion also changed some Lot Traits to Lot Challenges, and it also added two more: Simple Living and Wild Foxes. The foxes will not affect your flour production, but Simple Living will change some things. This is because of how Simple Living changes a fundamental part of the Sims, as you will no longer be able to cook the same way.

This means you can only cook, bake, can, or do anything involving food when you have the ingredients in your possession - that is, in your inventory, a fridge, or other food container. Any recipes you have unlocked will be grayed out if you do not have the required ingredients. You can see YouTuber EmmGeeYT try this challenge in the video above.

You can transfer the ingredients in your inventory into your fridge by selecting “Open” when interfacing with it.

In Cottage Living, most players would likely be excited to grow and harvest all their own food, especially with the means to get animal products from the new animals you can raise in The Sims 4. However, you will not be able to grow your own flour or sugar, at least not yet. This is crucial because it takes time to grow and harvest food, whereas at least you can survive off of recipes that just require flour since you can buy it.

This can make being able to buy Sugar and Flour a life-saving skill for many Sims. You will also get a significant boost to your Sims moods for Cooking and Baking on lots with this challenge, as well as a Happy Moodlet for two hours after the fact. This makes Flour incredibly important to have in The Sims 4 Cottage Living.
