best known for Sly Cooper and inFamous. As an open-world game Ghost of Tsushima has a lot of content for players to engage with, from tracking down different hot spring to liberating strongholds from the Mongols.
The quests of Ghost of Tsushima are separated into three categories; Jin's Journey, Tales of Tsushima, and Mythic Tales. The only mandatory quests are in Jin's Tale, everything else is up to the player's discretion. However, some of the best content in Ghost of Tsushima lies in the optional quests.
In particular, Mythic Tales show the game's systems at their very best and tell some interesting stories to boot. Here's why Mythic Tales are Ghost of Tsushima's best feature.
Mythic Tales Have Interesting Stories and Great Rewards in Ghost of Tsushima
Ghost of Tsushima's Mythic Tales can all be viewed immediately from the Journal menu, but they remain greyed out until players explore the island and learn info that pertains to them. As the name implies, each Mythic Tales deals with some piece of lore or history surrounding the island of Tsushima. For example, the Legend of Tadayori deals with the story of Tadayori Nagao, the greatest archer to ever live on Tsushima. At the start of each Mythic Tales players are treated to the legend it deals with, and in the case of Tadayori, it's said that a kami was so impressed with the archer's skill that it granted him heavenly armor.
Mythic Tales are worth doing simply to see the little legends and lore they deal with, but in the gameplay department they generally shake things up as well. Many of the Tales have players investigating bits of the islands and using things like violet flowers as waypoints on where to go.
Ghost of Tsushima's main story has players take on quite a few duels, but the ones in Mythic Tales put those to shame. One of the more memorable duels features Jin taking on a master samurai as lightning strikes all around them, creating a ring of fire around the combat ring. Each Mythic Tale duel has some unique visual gimmick that separates it from the other, and they're moments players won't soon forget.
The Mythic Tales of Ghost of Tsushima feel like Sucker Punch really harnessing the best aspects of the game; intense combat, gorgeous visuals, and a strong gameplay loop. The studio created a formula and use Mythic Tales to push said formula to the brink. Anyone that picks up Ghost of Tsushima needs to make sure to give them a try.
Ghost of Tsushima is now available for PS4.
