Of all the main locations on Gilmore Girls, the Dragonfly Inn is one of the most fascinating. While Rory and Lorelai always ate their meals at Luke's Diner and much of the show took place at Chilton, Yale, and Lorelai's adorable home, Lorelai did spend a lot of time at her place of business. The Dragonfly is charming and quirky and also signifies the hard work that Lorelai put into achieving her dream.
While the Dragonfly Inn may be confusing at times, this is still a major setting on Gilmore Girls, and many funny and heartwarming scenes happened here. From scenes about Lorelai and Sookie's friendship to the characters finally opening their dream business, there are many Dragonfly Inn scenes worth watching over and over again.
When Sookie Hired Not Five, But Seven Chefs
Sookie gave some quirky advice on Gilmore Girls and it's fair to say that her favorite place was in the kitchen of the two inns where she worked. She sometimes was so focused on her work that she couldn't think about much else.
In the fourth season finale "Raincoats and Recipes," Sookie and Lorelai were getting ready to open the Dragonfly Inn, and there's a hilarious scene in the kitchen. They had talked about hiring five chefs, but Sookie hired seven because she thought that some wouldn't last. When Lorelai said she would have to fire two, Sookie said they were all so talented. She was thrilled with one chef and said, "Look at how he chopped these onions. I just want to shove a string through them and wear them around my neck!"
When Rachel Showed Lorelai The Dragonfly Inn
Fans love Lorelai and Luke but Rachel and Luke had an interesting love story, too.
Rachel was the one who showed Lorelai the building that could become the inn she dreamed of. She drove Lorelai there and said that this place had been ignored. Lorelai immediately felt drawn to it and could see everything she always wanted. While not the most memorable scene at the Dragonfly Inn since it was fairly brief and a lot would need to happen before Lorelai could realize her dream, it still counts as a major moment.
When Sookie And Lorelai ed The Time During Their Inspection
In the fourth season episode "Chicken Or Beef?" the Historical Preservation Society did an inspection of the Dragonfly Inn. Lorelai and Sookie stood in front and talked about what they would have more fun doing than watching that.
Sookie suggested that she would be happy to be "Scrubbing shower grout with a toothbrush" and Lorelai said, "Getting brain freeze from eating ice cream." Michel asked what they were doing and they explained, and he definitely thought they were being silly like he usually did, but he could see the appeal since he hated it, too.
When Michel Won An RV
There were moments in the series when Michel and Lorelai didn't seem to be pals, and this scene was a good example of some conflict between the characters.
In the fifth season episode "Pulp Friction," an R.V. showed up at the Dragonfly Inn, as Michel had won this item. It was hilarious because he didn't want it and it was definitely a big and inconvenient gift. Michel had done really well on The Price Is Right and this was his prize. Lorelai was upset because the inn was being photographed for the magazine story she was featured in. This was a memorable moment because it showcased so much of what makes the show great, from Michel's stubborn personality to the fact that Lorelai was being presented with a cool business opportunity.
When Lorelai Kept Firing Chefs
It was sad that Lorelai ran the inn without Sookie in the Netflix revival A Year In The Life, but there was a funny scene that took place in this major setting.
Fans learned that Lorelai was having trouble finding a chef to replace Sookie and even though she had the best of the best, she kept firing them. While she was pretending that she was being picky and looking for the best talent out there, it was clear that she was dragging her feet because she missed her best friend and couldn't it that she was gone.
When Luke Was The Temporary Head Chef
In the fifth season episode "But I'm A Gilmore!" Luke was the head chef of the Dragonfly Inn for a little while since Sookie was on bed rest.
This is one of the best scenes at this major location, as Luke was changing the menu a little bit, and Sookie lost it. She was really mad and hurt that he would do that. Eventually, Sookie realized that she couldn't be in control of everything and she had to let go, especially since she was about to welcome a baby into the world. These two characters had a funny and quirky dynamic and it was always fun to see them together.
The Dragonfly Hosted Michel's Dog Chin-Chin's Funeral
While Gilmore Girls fans have mixed feelings about the final season, there were a few moments that stand out.
The seventh season episode "Farewell, My Pet" featured a funeral for Michel's beloved dog Chin-Chin. This was a special moment because the characters were giving Michel the love, , and respect that he always deserved. Sometimes Michel tended to fade into the background, but he was an integral part of the business and Sookie and Lorelai's lives.
When Sookie Told Norman Mailer She Was Pregnant
In the fifth season episode "Norman Mailer, I'm Pregnant!" the famous writer took up residence at the Dragonfly Inn's dining room for a long time. Sookie was upset and told Lorelai, "And I’m thrilled and delighted that Norman Mailer is coming in here every day and sitting at a table for four and ordering nothing at all but tea!"
While Sookie's attitude about not being able to serve the writer any food was hilarious, the best scene was when she ran to him and told him that she was expecting a baby. He congratulated her and she hugged him, which was a sweet moment.
When Sookie Returned In The Revival
Sookie made a brief appearance in A Year In The Life and while fans would have loved seeing this character get more scenes, her return was satisfying and wonderful.
Sookie came back and took her rightful place in the kitchen of the Dragonfly Inn. She had promised to make the wedding cake for Luke and Lorelai and in true Sookie St. James fashion, she made a ton of different cakes. Lorelai was really emotional about it, and they realized that while their careers had taken them in different directions, they would always be friends.
When Lorelai And Sookie Had A Trial Run At The Inn
In the fourth season finale "Raincoats and Recipes," Sookie and Lorelai finally got ready to open the Dragonfly Inn, and things went smoothly. The scene when Lorelai and Sookie basked in the glory of their success and Lorelai said to her friend, "This is gonna work" is the best one.
The friends had dreamed of this milestone for so long and it was finally on the horizon. Fans were excited for these characters and couldn't wait to see where this new venture took them.
