More than a handful of Godzilla’s opponents suffered embarrassing losses at his hands. Across more than six decades of cinematic history, Godzilla has engaged in more than his fair share of kaiju battles, taking down enemy after enemy. Some were naturally stronger than others, hence why the difficulty of his fights tends to vary.

Of course, Godzilla’s most iconic battles involve the King of the Monsters prevailing after a long, hard-fought showdown with another contender for his title. Some of these fights proved so challenging that Godzilla was on the brink of defeat at one point or another, such as the time he nearly died to Ghidorah in Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Conversely, there have been other moments in the franchise where victories were surprisingly easy to come by. After all, not all of Godzilla’s enemies are true rivals for the crown. Here’s 10 times Godzilla absolutely humiliated another monster in combat.

10 Godzilla: Final Wars – Godzilla vs. Gigan

Gigan In Godzilla Final Wars

One of the more well-received creative decisions made by Godzilla: Final Wars was its depiction of Gigan, which reinvented him with an imposing new design that emphasized his cyborg origins. To explain its change to the character, Final Wars first had to do away with the original. To this end, Final Wars saw Godzilla make short work of Gigan early on in the film by blasting off his head, paving the way for his revival.

9 King Kong vs. Godzilla – Godzilla vs. King Kong (First Round)

King Kong vs Godzilla 1962

King Kong may have been declared the winner of their first crossover, but their first fight in 1962’s King Kong vs. Godzilla paints an entirely different picture of the situation. Prior to getting a sudden upgrade from a bolt of lightning, King Kong was barely able to hold his own. Godzilla’s strength advantage, combined with his atomic breath, allowed him to easily bully Kong for several minutes. The worst humiliation Kong endured was the moment when Godzilla stood over him, beating the fallen ape repeatedly with his tail.

8 Godzilla, Mothra, and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack – Godzilla vs. Baragon

Baragon in the Godzilla franchise

Over 20 years after his appearance in 1968’s Destroy All Monsters, Baragon made his long-awaited return to the franchise in 2001 – only to lose horribly to Godzilla. Reimagined as a guardian monster sworn to protect the planet, Baragon tried in vain to make a stand against Godzilla in Godzilla, Mothra, and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack and paid the ultimate price for his efforts. After briefly adjusting to his new opponent’s strategy of biting and burrowing, Godzilla seized the upper hand and began pounding the outmatched Baragon in a vicious display of his superiority.

7 Godzilla – Godzilla vs. The Female MUTO

Godzilla vs MUTO in Godzilla (2014) using atomic breath

Considering that the female MUTO in 2014’s Godzilla was the larger of the two, it made sense that Godzilla’s fight with her would be even more intense than the one he had gone through with her mate. But as it turned out, Godzilla had no intention of engaging the MUTO in a prolonged fight. After grabbing her from behind, Godzilla proceeded to pull open her jaws and blow atomic breath down her throat, severing her head from her body.

6 Destroy All Monsters - Godzilla & His Allies vs. King Ghidorah

Despite his reputation for delivering some of Godzilla’s most contested battles, King Ghidorah wasn’t able to put up much of a fight in Destroy All Monsters. In fairness to Ghidorah, though, he had the odds stacked against him from the very beginning of the fight. All at once, he had to contend with Godzilla, Kumonga, Rodan, Anguirus, Mothra, and Gorosaurus. Baragon and Varan were there as well, but their involvement in the fight itself wasn’t necessary as the others had it well in hand. Led by Godzilla, the monsters easily trounced Ghidorah. The battle ended with a triumphant Godzilla stepping on Ghidorah’s necks until he was dead.

5 Godzilla: Final Wars – Godzilla vs. 1998 Godzilla

Zilla and Godzilla in Final Wars

An unlikely meeting occurred when 2004’s Godzilla: Final Wars featured a shocking cameo appearance from the Hollywood version of Godzilla introduced in Roland Emmerich’s 1998 remake. In a sequence that blatantly mocked the movie’s controversial take on the monster, Godzilla beat the creature with just one tail smack before finishing him off his with his atomic breath. Toho not even allowing the 1998 version a full fight with its Godzilla was an impossible-to-ignore insult to Sony and TriStar’s movie.

4 All Monsters Attack – Godzilla vs. Gabara

As a movie aimed at children, All Monsters Attack shifted the focus to Godzilla’s son, Minilla, and gave him his very own archenemy – an entirely new kaiju named Gabara. But while Gabara was Minilla’s opponent to beat for most of the movie, All Monsters Attack wouldn’t have been a true Godzilla movie if the King of the Monsters didn’t have at least one fight with the film’s central antagonist. When it finally happened, Godzilla won with relative ease, judo-throwing him to the ground and stomping him in the belly.

3 Godzilla: Final Wars – Godzilla vs. Anguirus, Rodan, & King Caesar

Anguirus Rodan and King Caesar in Godzilla Final Wars

Although not exactly equals to Godzilla, there were times when Anguirus, King Caesar, and Rodan were able to fight as worthy partners to him against other foes. In Godzilla: Final Wars, Toho demonstrated the gap between him and his allies by pitting him against not once, but all three kaiju heroes. Even as a trio, the three were no match for Godzilla, who dispatched one right after the other, creating a pile of defeated monsters.

2 Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II – Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla (First Round)

Although his status as Godzilla’s titular adversary in 1993’s Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II implied he’d be a force to be reckoned with, this version of Mechagodzilla proved a disappointment in his first fight with Godzilla. When he succeeded in electrocuting Godzilla by shooting him with his wires, it seemed he had what it took to challenge him. But Godzilla was quick to recover; he retaliated by charging into Mechagodzilla, with the force of his weight knocking the robot over, setting the stage for an easy win – and in turn, a frustrating loss for the humans. This is what pushed them into targeting Godzilla’s weakness, which was how they gave Mechagodzilla a fighting chance in the final battle.

1 Godzilla vs. Kong – Godzilla vs Kong (Final Round)

When armed with his Godzilla-powered axe, Kong was a sufficient challenge for Godzilla in the 2021 MonsterVerse crossover film. However, things took a turn for the worst when the second round concluded. After taking a heavy hit from Kong, Godzilla’s entire strategy changed – he adopted a more animalistic fighting style. Having pulled the ape’s arm out of socket and slamming him to the ground, Godzilla began crawling on all fours while relentlessly clawing at Kong. This culminated in Godzilla asserting his dominance by roaring in Kong’s face and crushing him under his foot.
