Webtoon is ready to introduce a new iteration of Godzilla. Last February, IDW Publishing promised a new era of Godzilla was set to arrive as a slew of new comics in their release schedule were ready to expand the Kaiju's multiverse. As of this writing, Godzilla and Godzilla: Escape the Deadzone are set to arrive in the summer, while Starship Godzilla is coming in October, all under the IDW label.

Now, the official Godzilla website confirms that starting on April 25, IDW Publishing will begin posting select stories of Godzilla: Unnatural Disasters on Webtoon. The critically acclaimed anthology series originally released in 2021, but Webtoon will be revisiting and ing a select few tales that will be reformatted specifically for reading by scrolling on the platform's website and mobile app for iOS and Android. The following is an official press release statement from Davidi Jonas, CEO & Publisher of IDW Publishing:

Partnering with WEBTOON to bring a selection of our beloved IDW books to their platform is an exciting step forward in expanding our reach and engaging with a broader audience. We're thrilled to work alongside such an innovative platform, and we can’t wait to see how our stories resonate with WEBTOON’s global community. This collaboration is an important part of our mission to bring comics to fans in creative and accessible ways.

IDW continues to stay true to its promise, bringing Godzilla to new audiences in new ways.

Godzilla: Unnatural Disasters is Coming to Webtoon

Godzilla: Unnatural Disasters features writings and artwork by several creators, including Bobby Curnow, Matt Frank, and Simon Gane

The original compendium of Godzilla: Unnatural Disasters collected three Godzilla series all into one: Godzilla in Hell, Godzilla: Rage Across Time, and Godzilla: Legends. He attempts to escape Hell whilst fighting old foes for Godzilla in Hell, arguably the monster's darkest comic, where he kills God and Satan. Godzilla: Rage Across Time, meanwhile, is a collection of short stories placing Godzilla in different time periods of historical significance, putting him in front of Zeus in Ancient Greece and, elsewhere, the time of dinosaurs. Godzilla: Legends contains five self-contained stories centered around a different monster from the franchise.

The collection also includes every piece of cover art and variant covers from each miniseries. It is unclear as to which stories will be remastered for Webtoon, but the remastering is the most promising part about this partnership. While the Unnatural Disasters collection released in 2021, each of these miniseries is over a decade old. Godzilla in Hell originally came out in 2015, Rage Across Time in 2016, and Legends in 2011. Relaunching them for Webtoon not only allows for a new reconfiguration for modern technology, but it also keeps the legacy of Godzilla's best comics alive.

Our Take on Godzilla: Unnatural Disasters Coming to Webtoon

Opens Godzilla to a Whole New Audience

godzilla in hell cover

Godzilla is a franchise that has existed since 1954, but that doesn't mean the more than 70-year-old franchise is too old to find new fans. That's what this new Webtoon revitalization can be seen as: opening Godzilla up to new fans. The IDW CEO ushers in a similar sentiment in his statement, and it's very much possible that reaching out to Webtoon's community gives Godzilla the chance to meet an entirely new set of fans. It stretches out the Kaiju to a whole new audience, only expanding Godzilla's legacy in the long run.
