He's been away from the Marvel Universe for a while, but Godzilla is coming back next year for a crossover event that's going to span decades. In 2025, the King of the Monsters returns for a series of one-shots that will bring him together with some of the biggest Marvel Comics icons.
Per the characters such as Spider-Man, Thor, and the Hulk. These one-shots will take place in different time periods, with the first seeing him cross paths with Marvel's First Family, the Fantastic Four.
Writer Ryan North and artist John Romita, Jr. will craft the first issue, which sees Godzilla's archenemy King Ghidorah becoming Galactus' new herald and gaining the Power Cosmic. In order to take Ghidorah down, Godzilla is teaming up with Galacus' most well-known herald, the Silver Surfer.
Godzilla vs. Marvel is Bringing the Kaiju Together with Marvel's Heroes
Godzilla's Marvel Adventures Begin with the Fantastic Four and Silver Surfer
Nearly fifty years ago, Godzilla had a series set in the Marvel Universe (Godzilla, King of the Monsters) which ran for two years and saw the Avengers going head-to-head with the monster. Unfortunately, the series was canceled after 24 issues and, due to Marvel Comics not owning the license to Godzilla, the series was all but forgotten. However, Godzilla's presence in comics has only gotten greater over time. Not only does he have numerous series at IDW with more on the way, but the MonsterVerse incarnation crossed over with DC earlier this year in Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong.
It’s an exciting prospect to see Godzilla back in a Marvel comic book. The Marvel Universe has changed considerably since the last time he was around and by the sound of things, Godzilla vs. Marvel sounds to be a lot more ambitious than last time. Not only will the one-shots showcase different time periods, but also different heroes. The first issue sounds like it’s starting off strong, throwing in King Ghidorah and juicing him up with the Power Cosmic. But what else is going to happen when Godzilla and his rivals face other Marvel heroes and villains?

Bold Crossovers Can Be Fun For Creatives and Readers
Anyone can just put two franchises together and call it a day, but the real fun of a crossover is when creative teams try new things that can’t be done in any place other than a comic. King Ghidorah with the Power Cosmic is one thing, but what if Rodan bonded with a symbiote or Iron Man built Godzilla a suit to fight Mechagodzilla (or made a suit out of Mechagodzilla)? The sky's the limit with crossovers like Godzilla vs. Marvel and the bigger swings that writers and artists take, the more likely fans will respond positively.
Bringing Godzilla to the Marvel Universe is just as fun an idea as it was in the ‘70s and, hopefully, the creators involved with Godzilla vs. Marvel have a lot of fun ideas for this new crossover. It’s one thing to have Godzilla stomping around, but it’s another level of fun seeing if he’s worthy enough to pick up Thor’s hammer. Whatever Marvel Comics has planned for Godzilla, it’s no doubt going to be interesting.
Godzilla vs. Marvel #1 is available from Marvel Comics in March 2025.
