Warning! Spoilers ahead for Green Lantern #1.

It's a new era for DC Comics' s, and a desire for greater galactic peace has hit its first roadblock with a major death among the Green Lantern Corps. While the Guardians of Oa agreed to host the first United Planets conclave and peace summit on the Green Lanterns' homeworld, not every world is on board with the Lanterns themselves ing the United Planets' ranks, with some believing that they've been in power as protectors of the universe for far too long, which sadly leads to a major assassination.

In Green Lantern #1 from writer Geoffrey Thorne and artists Dexter Soy and Marco Santucci, the first steps have been taken towards the future of the DC Universe, as seen in the recent entralized power in the DC Universe since its origins, and not every chapter of their past has been without flaws.

One group that has come to Oa with a particular vendetta against the Guardians is the Sorcerers of Zerox, who believe that the Guardians' possession of the Central Power Battery and source of willpower on the Emotional Spectrum robbed the rest of the DC Universe of a great magic that was meant for everyone. While they tried to sow unrest and chaos, they also enact a destructive spell to try to release the power. While the Green Lanterns managed to contain the situation and arrest the sorcerers, they didn't for the ones inside the United Planets conclave where the delegations were all meeting. As such, as soon as the United Planets vote to accept the Green Lantern Corps into their ranks, a sorcerer fired a magical arrow that killed one of the Guardians right in the middle of the peace summit.

Seeing as how the Guardians are some of the most powerful beings in the entire DC Universe, the murder of one of their own is a pretty big deal, especially when the assassination was done surrounded by representatives from different worlds trying to secure peace throughout the galaxy. As such, it seems more than likely that the United Planets will erupt into further chaos and distrust, at least until John Stewart and his Lanterns can launch an investigation and handle the Sorcerers of Zerox accordingly.

It's a very tense time in the DC Universe, and the death of one of the Guardians of Oa does not bode well for shared peace across worlds, and it's a pretty bad way to kick the United Planets coalition off regardless. Now, the Green Lanterns are going to be caught right in the middle of it all, and it looks like it will be up to them to maintain the path towards peace in the universe in further issues of the new series from DC Comics.
