Despite how powerful a Justice League. of the Green Lantern Corps often work in tandem to fight intergalactic threats by using their constructs together. But against one of its strangest threats the Justice League went one step further, uniting their wills and powers behind one ring to great effect.
Green Lantern power rings are some of the most powerful weapons in the DC Universe, able to manifest their ’s will as powerful energy constructs. This can vary greatly given an individual Lantern’s background. For instance, John Stewart often uses efficiently designed constructs given his past career as an architect. Kyle Rayner’s constructs on the other hand can be a bit more fanciful and creative given the Green Lantern's background as an artist. But while will and past experiences can contribute to the strength of a Lantern’s powers, an individual bearer will still have an upper limit in how complex and powerful their constructs will be. But this restriction can be circumvented, as the Justice League showed in one of its weirdest fights.
In JLA: Classified #15 by Warren Ellis and Jackson Guice, the Justice League is fighting a demonic alien artificial intelligence named Z that is the manifestation of the idea suggested by an ancient pictogram. Such a bizarre enemy needs to be defeated in an appropriately unique way, and after consulting with various geniuses and magic experts Oracle is able to provide the League with a viable plan of attack. She transmits this to Kyle Rayner through a psychic link established by Martian Manhunter, but the construct he needs to make is so complex he gets a nosebleed. While it may be too much for him to handle alone, J’onn is able to use his mental link to supplement Rayner’s mind and will with the other Leaguer’s. This combined with the Flash lending his speed force powers to provide enough time to actually build the construct, enables Rayner to complete the conceptual weapon and defeat Z.
Willpower is a trait that is often associated with individualism, and thus many Green Lanterns can have difficulty working well with others despite being of a larger corps. The famously difficult Guy Gardner is a perfect example of this. But this moment implies that a key to unlocking even more of the ring’s potential is actually teaming up with other powerful heroes. Especially given that Rayner is already one of the most powerful and skilled Lanterns and even he couldn’t create the weapon without help.
If Kyle couldn’t generate the construct to defeat Z on his own, then it is very likely that no Green Lantern could. Given all the ways the Guardians have experimented with variations on the power rings, it is strange that they have not tried making a ring that can be used by multiple people at once. Even if those people aren’t as powerful as the Justice League, this incident proves that Green Lanterns can massively increase their power by uniting multiple minds behind their own will.
