Warning: Spoilers ahead for Grey's Anatomy season 19, episode 7.Grey’s Anatomy season 19, episode 7 saw Meredith Grey exit the series as well as the interns starting a new chapter in their story together, showing that her leaving will be good for the new intern class. There have been numerous intern classes throughout Grey's Anatomy, starting with Meredith, George, Cristina, Izzie, and Alex in the pilot episode. Grey’s Anatomy season 19 introduced a brand-new group of interns who will now have the opportunity to benefit from Meredith leaving.
While on Grey’s Anatomy, Meredith went from a first-day intern at Seattle Grace Hospital to Chief of Surgery and Head of General Surgery at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. A lot changed during her time on the show, from the hospital’s name to the staff, to Meredith herself, who experienced much growth as a character. With the tagline for Grey’s Anatomy season 19 being “begin again,” the series has attempted to recapture the magic of the first season through the new intern class that, in many ways, mirrors the originals. Meredith leaving Grey Sloan behind will only help the interns in the long run.
The New Grey’s Anatomy Interns Now Live At Meredith’s House
Three interns moved into Meredith's house at the end of the Grey’s Anatomy season 19 winter premiere. Though Meredith’s house caught fire in the season 19 fall finale, luckily, the damage was contained mainly to the roof, and fixing it will become the interns’ new project. The move also solidified some Grey’s Anatomy mentorships, with Simone receiving her key from Meredith, Yasuda from Maggie, and Lucas from Amelia. The sisters giving them the keys can be seen as a ing of the torch from them to the new interns.
Before Meredith’s house was home to herself, her three children, and her sisters, it was home to many interns and doctors. In Grey’s Anatomy season 11, Alex, Callie, and Meredith told Maggie that “everybody lived here,” and now Simone, Yasuda, and Lucas are part of that group. In Grey’s Anatomy season 1, episode 2, George and Izzie moved in with Meredith. Now, with three interns living in the house again, it’s another example of a season 1 throwback in season 19. In moving into Meredith’s house together, the interns will be able to form a closer bond, just as those before them did.
The Interns Living Together Gives Them More Focus In Grey's Anatomy
The promo for Grey’s Anatomy season 19, episode 8, featured the interns fixing up Meredith’s house and fighting over bedrooms. Living together not only allows them to spend more time with each other outside the hospital but also allows viewers to spend more time with them. Having the interns live together will likely create a lot of interesting storylines, just like it had for the first set of interns, and it will give them more focus in Grey’s Anatomy now that Meredith’s gone. So while there is sadness in Meredith leaving Grey’s Anatomy, there’s a silver lining to be found with the new interns.
