When it comes to blockbuster franchises, it doesn't get much bigger than massive success of GTA 5 and its online component, but there's been no official word on GTA 6's release yet. Out of these sixth installments, which one will be in players' hands first?
At E3 2018, Bethesda officially revealed The Elder Scrolls 6 is coming at some point in the future. However, the studio also confirmed its next game doesn't take place on Tamriel: On the same stage, company head Todd Howard revealed Starfield as Bethesda's next big RPG, coming from the same studio that makes The Elder Scrolls. While Microsoft's buyout of Bethesda could have shifted plans, it's highly unlikely significant work has been put into The Elder Scrolls 6 up to this point.
The same could probably be said of a potential Grand Theft Auto 6, which, thanks to the continued sales success of GTA 5 and GTA Online, seemed to not be a sure thing for many years. However, the rumor mill has started to churn, and it's pointing toward GTA 6 being Rockstar's next project, now that Red Dead Redemption 2 is out the door. That game came out in 2018, meaning the main team at Rockstar has had plenty of time to work on its next project, whatever that may be.
Is Grand Theft Auto 6 Coming Out Before The Elder Scrolls 6?
It seems a Grand Theft Auto 6 release before The Elder Scrolls 6 is the logical outcome. That doesn't mean Rockstar's latest is right around the corner, though, as the game hasn't even been officially confirmed. However, even if it's several years before players are venturing into a new open-world satire, it will likely come sooner than Bethesda can launch both Starfield and The Elder Scrolls 6.
Whether it's the next Grand Theft Auto, the next Elder Scrolls, or the next F-Zero, diehard fans of franchises will always latch onto any rumor with even a shred of credibility. It's been a long time between releases for both of these series, and fans likely have years more to wait for GTA 6 and TES 6. In the meantime, there are plenty of alternatives worth looking into, or, for those less inclined to explore, there's a world of GTA Online and Skyrim mods more than able to fill the void. Both of these series will see sequels, but it's still unclear when.
