For beginner players in Gwent Rogue Mage Bulwark Deck, and players should spend time building up this powerful boosting deck with the best cards available early in the game.
There are four decks in Gwent Rogue Mage: the beginner Bulwark deck unlocked at the beginning of the game, Savage Fury unlocked at level 15, Hive Mind unlocked at level 25, and Chaos unlocked at level 45. As players progress through the story, they meet enemies and bosses at various places throughout the Continent. Players earn cards after defeating these enemies, though out of three presented, players can only choose one after each battle. Knowing which cards to choose can be difficult, especially for beginner players.
For Gwent Rogue Mage beginners, players should focus on the Bulwark deck and cards that either boost or do immense damage. While other decks rely on multipliers, the Bulwark deck is best for boosting attack power and victory points, so players should collect cards with these attributes.
The Best Gwent Rogue Mage Cards for a Bulwark Beginner Deck
The Bulwark Deck is tiered towards boosting mechanics in Gwent. Boosting increases the level of cards on the table. A card's level functions as its HP, but also victory points, which players need to win the game; whoever has the higher victory points total wins the match. Therefore, beginner players should find cards that have the best-boosting stats, or are powerful attackers that can be boosted in Gwent.
- Temerian Drummer - the lowly Temerian Drummer is a starting card in the Bulwark deck, but don't be fooled by its humble appearance; it is a boosting powerhouse. The Temerian Drummer will boost the card on its right by 1 point each turn. Since there are a maximum of ten turns in a round of Gwent in Rogue Mage, this can potentially add ten HP and victory points to a chosen card. Temerian Drummer starts with four HP and also has a 1 point shield.
- Aedirnian Mauler - while this card doesn't provide boosting like the Temerian Drummer, it is an excellent target for boosting. When the Aedirnian Mauler is boosted, is will do the same amount of damage as the boost; if it is boosted by 3 points, it will do 3 points damage. The Deck Leader for the Bulwark Deck is Lylianna, one of the main protagonists Gwent Rogue Mage. Whenever Alzur plays a spell using the Bulwark deck, Lylianna will boost a random card by 3. If Aedirnian Mauler is boosted by Lylianna, and also by the Temerian Drummer, it can do some decent damage to the enemy.
- Tridam Infantry - similar to the Aedirnian Mauler, the Tridam Infantry will damage an enemy unit by 1 whenever it's boosted. It's not as powerful as the Aedirnian Mauler, as the Infantry only does one point of damage regardless of the size of the boost, but it's a good substitute for the Aedirnian Mauler and should be left in the deck. The Tridam Infantry starts with 7 HP.
- Zoltan Chivay - this series alum and close personal friend to Geralt in The Witcher franchise is as feisty in Rogue Mage as he is in the books, games, and show. Zoltan Chivay will give a one-time boost to adjacent units on both sides by 4. Paired with Aedirnian Maulers, this can be a powerful HP-building, victory point gaining, and damaging combo. Zoltan Chivay starts with four HP and has a 4 point shield.
- Syanna - this card can be picked up after killing enemies. Syanna, sister of Duchess Anna Henrietta of Toussaint, will repeat the Deploy ability of whichever card is played after her. When used before a powerful booster, it can effectively double that boost for the round, making her a strong card that players will find early in the game.
