Season 2 of Halo Infinite fans have rooted for Clippy-related content for quite some time, with one talented member of the community even deg a mock-up of Clip-E as Master Chief's AI assistant. While developer 343 Industries never added such a feature to the shooter, many held out hope that Clippy's return as a 3D emoji in Microsoft 365 would serve as the catalyst for the character's Halo debut.

Clippy originally hit the scene 25 years ago in Microsoft Office 97. The paperclip-shaped digital character sat at the bottom right corner of Office documents as an Office Assistant, a role it maintained for several years before being retired with the release of Microsoft Office 2007. Interestingly, Clippy's return to popularity spawned from a Twitter competition wherein the official Microsoft asked followers to like a tweet 20,000 times if they wanted Clippy to replace the paperclip emoji in Microsoft 365. The tweet in question eventually garnered well over 100,000 likes. Microsoft Office s weren't the only ones clamoring for the character's resurrection.

Halo Infinite Season 2: Lone Wolves went live yesterday, May 3, with a host of new playable content in tow. As James Shields, Senior Product Manager at Xbox, pointed out, the Season 2 additions include a Clippy as an Epic Nameplate dubbed Clipster. Clippy also appears in Halo Infinite Season 2 in the form of a Legendary Charm, James Shields noted in another Twitter post. Check out screenshots of the Microsoft Office-inspired Nameplate and Charm in the tweets linked below:

The new Charm and Nameplate for Halo Infinite Season 2 perfectly capture the essence of Clippy. From the digital character's tightly wound wire frame to its expressive eyes and eyebrows, Clippy looks to be nothing short of a good fit for the world of Halo Infinite. Hopefully, the Microsoft Office icon's in-game implementation is only just beginning.

Halo Infinite's second season arrives after a relative drought with respect to post-launch content updates of consequence. The new seasonal content unlocks access to two additional multiplayer maps (Catalyst and Breaker), extra Slayer variants, reset multiplayer ranks, two more multiplayer modes in the form of Last Spartan Standing and King of the Hill, and a 100-tier Season 2 Battle . 343 Industries plans to spread out the latest season across six months, with new updates entering the mix as time es. Halo Infinite's long-awaited Co-op Campaign will arrive on an unspecified date in August.
