Happy Gilmore 2's cast is also set to feature the return of Christopher McDonald as the villainous Shooter McGavin. Meanwhile, musical artist Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasió, otherwise known as Bad Bunny, is also set to the cast in an as-yet undisclosed role.

Recently appearing on Today With Hoda & Jenna (via People), Bowen was asked whether her character and Sandler’s Happy Gilmore are still together since audiences last saw them. Despite itting that she can reveal “absolutely zero” about the sequel, she did confirm that Virginia and Happy are still a couple. Check out her comments below:

Yes, we are very much together... Is that bad? No. That… You can put that… I think I’m allowed to say that.

Happy Gilmore 2 Will Feature Another Big Reunion

While it is good news that Happy and Virginia have managed to stay together in the years since he won his first Tour Championship jacket, the current cast lineup of Happy Gilmore 2 also raises questions about another long-standing relationship. Throughout the original movie, McDonald’s Shooter McGavin proved to be the perfect foil against which Sandler was able to deliver one of his most memorable comedic performances.

With the original Happy Gilmore ending showing the titular hockey player-turned-golfer robbing Shooter of his chance to win his own tour jacket, it is likely that his animosity only continued to fester in the years that followed. While Happy would not only go on to win Virginia’s heart and save his grandmother’s house, most viewers would expect that Shooter’s fortunes continued to take an opposite turn. Now, years later, Shooter may even find himself in the same position once faced by Chubbs Peterson, Happy’s mentor played by Carl Weathers, and forced to work as a driving range instructor after losing his once-promising career.

Having Happy and Virginia currently living their happily ever after, while Shooter now finds himself as the embittered outsider, could potentially set the stage for a memorable take on the original movie’s dynamics. Though Sandler’s fans are undoubtedly keen to see Bowen’s return as Virginia, the sequel’s biggest drawcard will likely be what happens when Shooter and Happy are forced to cross paths once more.
