Bandai Namco has announced a new set of Kingdom Hearts 20th Anniversary Tamagotchi that were announced last March and are set to be released in Japan this October.

To add to this, Hatsune Miku is arguably the world’s most popular virtual idol. Debuting in 2007, the Vocaloid software voicebank turned internet icon quickly became a global sensation in just a few years. Her endearing character design, along with the ability for fans to create their own songs and media featuring her vocals, made Hatsune Miku’s presence explode online. Apart from the thousands of songs featuring the character’s voice, Hatsune Miku has appeared in other forms of media like anime and video games. This includes the recently released, SEGA released Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA Mega Mix+ on Steam. The rhythm game is a re-release of 2020’s Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA Mega Mix for the Nintendo Switch but with additional songs and features.

The trio of new Hatsune Miku Tamagotchi were announced by Bandai Namco Japan (via Nintendo Wire) and are available for preorder on its Bandai website. There will be three designs in total, including a turquoise and white “Cute Miku,” a blue and white “Cyber Miku,” and a limited-edition translucent “Future Miku.” The Tamagotchi will feature up to ten different versions of Hatsune Miku as well as other characters including Rin, Len, Luka, Meiko, and Kaito. Owners will be able to play three minigames on the new Hatsune Miku Tamagotchi, including Vocal Lesson, Note Catch, and Day and Night Performances.

Hatsune Miku Tamagotchi

Unlike the Star Wars R2-D2 Tamagotchi that was released last year, the Hatsune Miku Tamagotchi are unfortunately only set for release in Japan. While it may still be possible for those outside Japan to purchase them, they may not have an English language option. Bandai Namco releasing Japan-exclusive Tamagotchi isn’t anything new or surprising, as the aforementioned Kingdom Hearts Tamagotchi are also exclusive to the country.

Due to the general popularity of Tamagotchi worldwide, it would be exciting to see not just the Hatsune Miku special edition options become more widely available, but other Tamagotchi crossovers as well. The pocket game would be perfect to cross with popular franchises like Animal Crossing or Final Fantasy 7. In the meantime, the Hatsune Miku Tamagotchi line is a cute option for fans of the digital singer, and hopefully, they will be released in other countries for those interested in buying one.
