Marvel's Disney+ show starring Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) and Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) is now over, but will Hawkeye season 1's ending leaves the door open for more.
The events of Hawkeye built up to Clint and Kate working together to bring down Kate's mom Eleanor Bishop (Vera Farmiga) after learning she is involved with Wilson Fisk a.k.a. Kingpin (Vincent D'Onofrio). They succeeded in this fashion, as Eleanor was arrested and Kingpin defeated by Kate. Meanwhile, Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) continued her attempt to kill Clint, although that ended in a peaceful resolution after she learned what really happened to Black Widow in Avengers: Endgame. This allowed Clint and Kate to journey to the Barton farm for Christmas and spend time with Clint's family, including his wife and former SHIELD agent Laura Barton (Linda Cardellini).
Now that the first season is over, there is interest in seeing Hawkeye season 2 from many viewers. The Loki has already shown Marvel Studios is willing to continue these stories if there is more to tell. Here’s everything we know about the status and story of Hawkeye season 2.
Is Hawkeye Season 2 Renewed?
Marvel Studios has not officially announced Hawkeye season 2. Those involved have not alluded to any formal discussions about the show continuing beyond its single season. Marvel could secretly be working its way through those conversations, but Hawkeye doesn't directly tease that this specific story needs to continue. The series didn't even include a post-credits tag confirming Hawkeye will return to the MCU.
Hawkeye's MCU Story Is Over - He Needs to Retire
If Hawkeye season 2 does happen, it could come without Clint Barton. After five movie appearances and his Disney+ series, it appears that Clint's MCU story is complete. He should be able to retire at this point and live a peaceful life with his family, especially after he ed the Hawkeye mantle to Kate Bishop. She will be at the center of a potential Hawkeye season 2. Kate's solo adventures could include becoming a private investigator and dealing with the fallout of what happened with her mother, which could include Eleanor becoming Madame Masque.
Kate Bishop & Hawkeye's Future Explained
Even if Hawkeye season 2 doesn't happen, Kate Bishop's MCU future as the new Hawkeye is promising. She has some experience now with trick arrows and fighting crime, so Kate is more than ready to step up as a superhero. Marvel hasn't confirmed where she'll appear next, but Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
Hawkeye Season 2 Predicted Release Date
If Marvel Studios does decide to make Hawkeye season 2, viewers will likely have to wait a while for it to be released on Disney+. A release in 2022 is entirely out of the question, and it might also be unlikely that it could return during 2023 unless it is already in development. As a result, Hawkeye season 2's release date is most likely going to land in 2024. The exact landing spot for the series could once again be based on the setting of Kate's next story, but Marvel could look at repeating the holiday tone and release window.
Disney's Awards Campaign Shows That Hawkeye Season 2 Can Happen
An update to Disney Studio Awards website indicates Hawkeye season 2 isn't as off-the-table as previously thought. The Marvel shows on Disney+ have been limited series – single stories told over 6 episodes like a long, segmented movie, rather than a continuous procedural episodic structure that could go on indefinitely like the DC Comics Arrowverse adaptations. The Hawkeye series on Disney+ isn't considered by Disney as "season 1" because there isn't supposed to be a season 2, 3, 4, or more. And, up until 2022, no statements released by Disney or Marvel Studios suggested that would change.
However, the Disney Studio Awards website shows that the House of Mouse is putting Marvel Studios' Hawkeye up for consideration in the Outstanding Comedy Series category at the Emmy awards. Not only is comedy recognition a huge achievement for a predominantly action-based show about almost-superpowered archers, the Outstanding Comedy Series category is usually reserved for sitcoms and multi-series comedy serials. Disney's choice to get Hawkeye nominated for this specific award has given some fans hope that, just maybe, there's a limit on how long this beloved limited series stays limited.
