Starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as Spencer Strasmore, Ballers was a hit sports drama that came to an end quite recently after HBO aired the show's fifth and final season. While seasons two and three of the HBO Original are considered very good, the same cannot be said about the last two seasons, as they couldn't live up to the fans' expectations.
In season four, according to IMDb.
"Must Be The Shoes" (7.0)
In the second episode of season 5, Spencer is on the move to get himself some financial backing after he agreed to take over The Chiefs. And guess what? He went to the Anderson brothers, again, for help. Back at SportsX, Joe gets a good speech from Lance and Kate because one of the company's employees has said that Joe creates a hostile atmosphere.
A certain Odell Beckham Jr. is set to meet them in a couple of hours, so they need to get their acts straight. Meanwhile, Ricky has suffered a lot of damage after his car crash, which puts his involvement in the season into jeopardy.
"Copernicursed" (7.2)
In the third episode of season 5, Reggie has a pitch for Joe, which the latter surely wouldn't like. This episode, again, puts Joe, the leader, in the spotlight. For far too long, he has played the second fiddle but now, he has the command of SportsX and he is ready to make some tough decisions.
The one good thing about Joe is that he isn't stubborn like Spencer; if he sees someone pitch him a good idea, more often than not, he'll go forward with it. For Spencer, though, it is the same old story as he talks with Mr. Anderson to come up with the money to buy the Kansas City Chiefs. And Spencer also has a meeting with an old buddy of his, Jason.
"Municipal" (7.2)
In the fourth episode of season 5, Spencer, as always, wants to give everyone an opportunity, even if it puts him in jeopardy. To be honest, that is one good quality he has. Jason, being the best agent in the business, is looking out for his clients, something Spencer isn't exactly liking.
Elsewhere, someone gives Ricky a really good idea about what he should do as his retirement nears. Meanwhile, Charles needs to deal with the headaches of being the GM for another season. Still, Charles is the sweetest character in the series.
"Edutainment" (7.2)
The sixth episode of season 5 deals with the aftermath of Kisan Teague's death. A funeral is arranged for the football player who had loads of potential but unfortunately, his roots never let go of him.
In the owners' meeting, Bossman proposes an 18-game season, an idea Spencer proves to not be receptive to, which is putting it lightly. As a former player, Spencer knows that the players need their break and although increasing the number of games in a season might hand them more money, it could hamper their health for the rest of their lives. This is another really important topic brought up by the series.
"Protocol Is For Losers" (7.4)
In the first episode of the final season, Spencer is shown speaking about greatness before the scene cuts to a beach where he is sitting with Tracy. While they are seemingly enjoying a holding, Bossman calls and informs Spencer that he could possibly become the owner of the Kansas City Chiefs.
At this point in time, it feels Spencer hasn't talked to his old buddies – namely Joe, Jason, Ricky, etc – in a long time. And why would he? He sure has a gigantic ego. Joe, on the other hand, seems to be in a partnership with Lance and although he says he has forgotten about Spencer, from his face, it seems like that is not the case.
"Crumbs" (7.4)
In the fifth episode of season 5, the writers of the show finally decided to give Joe a personal life. He spends one night together with Kate, although the latter seems to be of the "not committing" type. Joe feels a connection with Kate and they look quite good together.
Spencer is finding life difficult as the owner of the Kansas City Chiefs, and making a controversial decision doesn't help matters. However, Spencer has always found a way to find trouble, and this time it comes by the name of Kisan Teague. Also, Reggie hasn't let go of the eSports idea.
"Who Wants A Lollipop" (7.5)
In the penultimate episode of season 5, Ricky sees his radio show reach new heights, while Charles gets an offer from The Rams owner to stay as the GM of the team. Again, this all boils down to one simple question: Can Charles work in the tense environment for a couple more years?
Reggie, Vernon, and Lance are concentrating on eSports because the three of them think there's a future in professional gaming. This episode also sees a long-awaited moment; Spencer and Joe meet each other after a very long time.
"Players Only" (7.9)
The season 5 finale is a decent end to a really good HBO series that gave fans a lot of knowledge and laughs. Spencer has to make good on a promise, as he finally makes his biggest baller move.
Also, the question regarding Spencer's interview that played at the start of every episode is answered. It turns out, Spencer was giving an interview for Ricky's new show. Seems like the two came to with each other.
