Superman and Geralt never quite got a proper goodbye in Man of Steel and The Witcher, but one of stepped down from his role as Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher as he thought it wasn't faithful enough as an adaptation. Despite the sadness of losing Cavill's Geralt, Cavill's move made his priorities clear to fans. Being dropped from his Superman role after the DCEU shakeup left Cavill with one big franchise role still bubbling away - his role in Enola Holmes.
This is an absolutely key role in Henry Cavill's career, although a fair few people may not know about it, especially if they aren't diehard Cavill fans or Netflix subscribers. However, in the Enola Holmes franchise, Henry Cavill actually plays one of British literature's most iconic characters. From Enola Holmes' first outing in 2020 to the Enola Holmes 2 movie, Cavill played none other than Sherlock Holmes, Britain's greatest fictional detective. Confirmation of Enola Holmes 3 is hugely exciting, setting the wheels in motion for Cavill's return as Sherlock.
It’s Still Unclear If Henry Cavill’s Sherlock Will Return In Enola Holmes 3
Enola Holmes 3 Would Feel Empty Without Henry Cavill
Philip Barantini has been confirmed to direct the Enola Holmes 3 movie, but Henry Cavill has not yet been announced as a returning member of the franchise's cast (Deadline). Millie Bobby Brown is expected to come back to screens as Enola but hasn't yet been signed to the movie. Cavill's Sherlock normally offers an important subplot in the Enola Holmes movies, so it would be a surprise if Cavill didn't reprise his role. Additionally, Cavill has added Enola Holmes 3 to his IMDb. But only time will tell if Cavill is certain to delight fans as Sherlock Holmes once again.
Sherlock Isn’t The Focus In Enola Homes (But Cavill Is Still Great In The Role)
Enola Is More Central Than Sherlock In Enola Holmes, But Sherlock Is Still Key
Sherlock Holmes is one of the best characters in Enola Holmes, despite not being the main one. Millie Bobby Brown plays Enola Holmes, the main character of the franchise, and is refreshing as Sherlock's ambitious little sister. This feminist approach brought Arthur Conan Doyle's age-old classic renewal, growth, and sociopolitical relevance. Cavill's Sherlock took a backseat, letting Bobby Brown drive, while shining as her emotionally distant and problematic sibling. Cavill's take on Sherlock was completely different from those of Benedict Cumberbatch and Robert Downey Jr., adding a new dimension to a well-trodden story.

Enola Holmes 3 Will Be Very Different If It Follows This Book
Enola Holmes 3 is officially in development, and though the movies have been loose adaptations of the books, these provide some clues about the plot.
Enola Holmes' focus on the Reform Bill vote was as historically educational and feminist as its premise - focusing on Sherlock's sister, rather than Sherlock. Enola was invented by Nancy Springer in her 2006 Enola Holmes novel, riffing off the Sherlock Holmes classics created by Arthur Conan Doyle in the 1800s. Springer proved how "fanfiction" can be the best type of fiction. Sherlock fit into this story as a guiding figure for Enola, but also a symbol of what was missing in her life. Cavill captures this trait beautifully and his Sherlock deserves a comeback in the next Enola Holmes outing.
