A movie reuniting some of the major cast and crew from Forrest Gump has ed a box office milestone despite still struggling to break even. Directed by special effects innovator Robert Zemeckis, 1994's Forrest Gump was a smash hit. The movie, which is adapted from the Winston Groom novel of the same name and follows a man who unwittingly witnesses and influences many important historical moments over the course of his life, grossed $678.2 million worldwide against its $55 million budget and became the second highest-grossing movie of the year worldwide behind Disney's The Lion King.

The Robert Zemeckis movie was also a critical success. On Rotten Tomatoes, it has earned a Certified Fresh 75% score from critics alongside its near-perfect 95% audience score. In addition, Forrest Gump was nominated for 13 Academy Awards, eventually winning six, including Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Actor (Tom Hanks), Best Director, and Best Picture, in a competition where it beat out other major contenders including Quentin Tarantino's Pulp Fiction and Frank Darabont's The Shawshank Redemption.

Here Has ed A Box Office Milestone

It Still Has A Long Way To Go

Here has hit a box office milestone. The movie, which uses a static camera shot to explore a nonlinear story about centuries of drama that take place on a single plot of land and in the home that is built upon it, is a reunion between Forrest Gump director Robert Zemeckis, screenwriter Eric Roth, and co-stars Robin Wright and Tom Hanks. The Here cast also includes Paul Bettany, Kelly Reilly, and Michelle Dockery. During its opening weekend, the movie debuted at No. 5 at the domestic box office with just $4.8 million.

It is still significantly in the red...

Per Collider, Here has now grossed $10.2 million worldwide from a $9.8 million domestic gross and $368,000 from its international release. This has finally pushed it past the $10 million milestone after nearly two full weeks in theaters. However, the movie's production budget, which is estimated to be between $45 and $50 million, means that it is still significantly in the red, nor does it show any signs of improving by the end of its theatrical run.

What This Means For Here

It Will Probably Be A Box Office Bomb

Tom Hanks and Robin Wright embracing each other in Here (2024)

The Forrest Gump reunion movie's box office performance, which might have been battered by Here reviews earning it a dismal 35% score on Rotten Tomatoes, likely means that it will never turn a profit in theaters. Typically, movies need to earn two and a half times their budgets, most likely placing its break-even point somewhere around $115 million. It seems impossible for it to reach that goal, especially with the impending releases of major blockbuster tentpoles including Red One, Wicked, Gladiator II, and Moana 2 crowding out theaters.
