American Idol season 23 has been fascinating thus far, but there's been a bit of resistance from long-time viewers who just don't feel the show tugging at their heartstrings anymore. American Idol has long been one of the most heartwarming talent competitions on the air, but that came from a specific formula.

While American Idol still shows heartwarming stories, there's something missing from the series in the last few seasons as the judges' has been shaken up. After the departure of Katy Perry at the end of American Idol season 22, it was clear there was something left to be desired working as an Idol judge. Katy was replaced by Carrie, the winner of American Idol season 4, and has been someone that viewers are still growing to understand after the first few episodes. With Luke and Lionel still part of the show, there's a lot of change that could come.

I think bringing American Idol alumni into the judging could be something that helps shake up the show.

As American Idol has been on the air for nearly two decades, the series has been a major cultural phenomenon, but it doesn't always learn from its mistakes. While the judges on the revamped version of the series that debuted in 2018 have remained nearly the same for the duration, bringing in talent like Luke, Lionel, and Katy was an interesting move when revitalizing a series that creates superstars. With Carrie in the mix now, it feels more vital than ever to bring other American Idol alumni into the judging space, creating camaraderie with the new performers.

As American Idol has a repository of stars that they've given a platform, it's possible that winners, contestants and even those who merely auditioned and found stardom another way could be an asset to the series. Judging the competitors and bringing their own takes to the table, I think bringing American Idol alumni into the judging could be something that helps shake up the show. While things to stay true to the roots of American Idol's values, new judges that stem from the series could be an interesting ploy.

American Idol Should Replace Lionel Richie With Adam Lambert

He's Become An Incredible Performer

I think American Idol's judge Lionel has been incredible, and as one of the world's biggest superstars, he's brought immeasurable value to the show. While I love Lionel, I think it's time to bring new blood to the judging , and with an Idol-centric idea behind it, I think Adam Lambert could be a fun replacement. Adam, who competed on American Idol season 8, didn't win the show, but has gone on to become a superstar in his own right. His ability to bend genres is incredible, and he'd be able to on great advice to the contestants.

American Idol Should Replace Luke Bryan With Jennifer Hudson

She's A Multi-Faceted Talent

Although Jennifer Hudson came in seventh place during American Idol season 3, she's gone on to have a massive career that includes winning the EGOT and hosting her own talkshow. Bringing similar country background to Carrie, could create more diversity in the , allow a judge into the space who doesn't have the perfect Idol success story, and open up more opportunities for the contestants to feel comfortable failing. Jennifer would be an incredible pick for American Idol season 24, and could round out a fascinating of new Idol-centric judges.

American Idol airs on Sundays at 8 p.m. EDT on ABC.
