Fourteen years after the finale of the hit TV show, Heroes, it's getting a second reboot, and this time the show must answer the questions fans have been asking for years. The final season of Heroes premiered in 2010, and the story picked back up in 2015 with the miniseries, Heroes Reborn. However, both Heroes Reborn and the last two seasons of Heroes dipped in quality when compared to the show's epic beginnings. Returning to the series' universe after so much time has ed poses difficulties and opportunities.

Like many shows airing in the early 2000s, Heroes was affected by the 2007/2008 Hollywood Writer's Strike, greatly impacting the quality of season 2.

Like many shows airing in the early 2000s, Heroes was affected by the 2007/2008 Hollywood Writer's Strike, greatly impacting the quality of season 2. However, Heroes' second reboot could fix season 2's mistakes and give viewers the character arcs they expected after the fantastic first season. Reportedly, the series will be called Heroes: Eclipsed, and will take place following the events of Heroes season 4 (via Deadline). Outside these facts, little is known about the plot, characters, or future of the reboot.

10 Does The World Know About The Heroes' Powers?

This was a constant source of conflict throughout Heroes

The Heroes season 4 finale, "Brave New World," left off on an enormous cliffhanger revolving around the future of humanity's relationship with people with powers. Throughout the show, the heroes were concerned about whether those without powers should know about them, and if that would result in a worldwide conflict. In one timeline, Peter (Milo Ventimiglia) goes back in time and shoots his brother, Nathan (Adrian Pasdar), to stop him from sharing this information with the world.

However, after saving the world many times, Claire (Hayden Panettiere) takes matters into her own hands and shows everyone her healing ability on camera in the final moments of the finale.

However, after saving the world many times, Claire (Hayden Panettiere) takes matters into her own hands and shows everyone her healing ability on camera in the final moments of the finale. This was meant to spark the next volume of the story that would deal with the fallout of Claire's actions. Since the show was canceled, audiences never found out what happened to the evos (evolved humans) across the globe who could finally come out of the shadows. Heroes: Eclipsed might occur in a harmonious society of evos and humans living together, but that seems unlikely.

Heroes: Recaps Of Every Season (Including Heroes Reborn)

NBC's Heroes was a pop culture staple of the 2000s and got a reboot, Heroes Reborn. Here are recaps of every season of the sci-fi show.

9 Is Claire Really Dead?

Is there any way that Heroes: Eclipsed can bring her back?

Though Hayden Panettiere might not be returning for the next iteration of Heroes, how her character was written off by dying in childbirth disappointed many fans. Though Heroes never gave its characters the happiest endings, and after going through so much, it wasn't fair for Claire to disappear completely like this. How Heroes: Eclipsed deals with the canon of Heroes and Heroes Reborn will be one of the biggest concerns for many fans. If there's a chance Claire could come back it would be great for the story.

She was the one who kicked off the reveal of evos to the rest of humanity in a Heroes plot twist no one saw coming. In many ways, her character was one of the most important on the show, and losing her was one of the reasons that Heroes Reborn didn't have the same impact as the original series. Since multiple timelines and futures canonically exist in Heroes, it's not out of the question that some version of Claire could return and guide the future evos.

8 Will The Original Heroes Return?

Or will it be an entire new generation of evos?

There's no question that the focus of the show should be on a new group of evos, but they will need guidance from those who've saved the world before.

If Claire's return is on the table, this would open the door for a multitude of original characters to make a comeback. While Hiro (Masi Oka), Carols (Ryan Guzman), and a few others appear in Heroes Reborn, it wasn't enough to save the reboot that flopped. Bringing back fan-favorite characters like Peter, Claire, and even Sylar (Zachary Quinto) would immediately show the audience that this iteration of Heroes means business. However, this could pose a problem as many of these actors have gone on to achieve great fame since Heroes ended.

For many of the original actors, the failure of Heroes Reborn put the franchise to bed forever, so there's a unique pressure for Heroes: Eclipsed to succeed, or the universe might fade away forever. There's no question that the focus of the show should be on a new group of evos, but they will need guidance from those who've saved the world before. It would be smart for the iteration to choose a protagonist who isn't familiar with the lore and abilities of evos, so new audiences can easily be introduced to the world.

7 How Many Humans Have Become Evos?

Has the population exploded, making evos the dominant group?

Evos have incredible powers, making them ripe for exploration and the choice to use their abilities for good or evil. However, if, in the future, being an evo is a common occurrence, this would change the power dynamic of the series' universe. Exploring a new world filled with evos where being a regular human is the minority would be an interesting subversion of the original premise. Additionally, the people in power could be evos who regulate and organize the world as the largest portion of the population. This opens the door for corruption and attempts to bring peace.

Heroes: Eclipsed should consider expanding the story’s world and making it an even more global tale than it was in 2006. Compared to the show’s contemporaries in the early 2000s, the cast was diverse and told a broad range of stories. However, the new show could push the boundaries even more and take inspiration from globetrotting series like Sense8. As the seasons progressed Heroes became increasingly rooted in America, and that's not as interesting a setting anymore.

6 Who Is Next In The Petrelli Family Line?

The central family of evos were both the protagonists and antagonists

The parents of most of the characters were later discovered to have ties to The Company, including Peter and Nathan's parents, Angela and Arthur Petrelli.

The sibling dynamic between Peter and Nathan was a driving force behind the emotional heart of Heroes. As the seasons progressed, audiences realized that their family had more power than they knew, like most of the other evos. The parents of most of the characters were later discovered to have ties to The Company, including Peter and Nathan's parents, Angela and Arthur Petrelli. However, their family line doesn't end there, as it's also discovered that Nathan is the biological father of Claire, making her part of the Petrelli legacy.

This lineage is touched upon in Heroes Reborn, as Claire's children are the direct descendants of Angela and Arthur, and her son, Tommy (Robbie Kay), is a major protagonist because of this. He's one of the Heroes characters who needs to return in the reboot because he is the next generation of Petrellis. Though treating being a Petrelli as part of a chosen-one mentality would be a mistake for Heroes: Eclipsed, it still carries weight within the series and that should be addressed.

5 What New Powers Will Be Introduced?

Now that visual effects have advanced so much

Part of the draw of Heroes was the incredible feats the characters were capable of, and the trial and error they faced while trying to figure out how to use them. However, something that Heroes: Eclipsed can improve on from both series are the visual effects and action sequences. As a show, Heroes was always meant to stand apart from the other offerings of the superhero genre. However, many of the climatic battle sequences were lackluster, which left the audience disappointed.

Heroes: Eclipsed would fail if it copied the fight choreography of modern-day comic book movies, but it shouldn't let viewers down with stagnant action. Now more than ever, the reboot has a chance to stand out within its niche as the comic book and superhero genre has never been more saturated. Some might feel that this means the Heroes reboot comes at the worst possible time. However, it means there are no excuses for series creator, Tim Kring, to rest on his laurels and let the show's legacy propel its success.

Heroes: Recasting The Main Characters Today

The series Heroes was a hit with fans thanks to its ensemble of superpowered characters, but who would fill these roles if the show was made today?

4 What Happened To Mohinder?

His arc was one of the most open-ended throughout the show

Mohinder (Sendhil Ramamurthy) was a significant character throughout Heroes' original run. However, with only a few episodes to go before the series finale, he dropped off the map and was never seen again. Part of this might have been because the actor, Ramamurthy, was ready for a change. Or, that the writers didn’t know how to wrap up his character arc. Regardless, this means that Mohinder has the potential to return in Heroes: Eclipsed for an exciting appearance that reveals what he's been up to since the finale.

These secondary characters got left behind because the writers were trying to balance too many storylines at the same time.

He's not the only character that didn't get a satisfying conclusion throughout Heroes, as across the seasons many minor characters were forgotten about. These secondary characters got left behind because the writers were trying to balance too many storylines at the same time. In the reboot, this can't be a mistake that's made again, and the creators should be aware of the strengths and weaknesses of utilizing an ensemble cast. Additionally, characters like Mohinder should be revived to achieve a satisfying end.

3 Will Tommy/Nathan Have Children Of His Own?

Are they who Heroes: Eclipse will be about?

Tommy was a compelling character in Heroes Reborn because of his origins, but in Heroes: Eclipsed he could come back to follow in his mother’s footsteps. If he has children, they would be the next generation of Petrellis and would most likely inherit the genes to be evos. Whether or not Tommy, and his potential children, are incorporated in the reboot will have to do with the direction the show takes, and what plotlines it carries through from the first two series. As Tommy only exists in Heroes Reborn, he might not be featured.

However, deciding to pick up where Tommy's story left off would mean a significant time jump, as the actor has aged considerably since the finale of Heroes Reborn. Based on the timing, it's a definite possibility that he could have children, and who he has them with could also impact their powers and importance within the community of evolved humans. Any child born with these special abilities is in a unique position on Earth.

2 Where/When Will They Travel In Time?

Time travel was a source of confusion and revelation throughout the show

Hiro was the evo with the ability to manipulate space and time, and while this got him into trouble, it also came in handy saving the world many times. At one point in the series, he travels back to feudal Japan, and his jumping through time also prevents him from having a happy ending with the love of his life. Based on these examples, it's clear that in Heroes messing around with time never ends well. However, it's too good of a plot point for the series not to use again.

Seeing a new young evo grapple with having an ability similar to Hiro's would be a compelling aspect of the reboot.

Seeing a new young evo grapple with having an ability similar to Hiro's would be a compelling aspect of the reboot. Additionally, the ability to travel in time and space opens the door to a plethora of settings, periods, and tragic love stories across time and space. This will also be a space where the increased quality of visual effects can shine, as characters can interact with fully realized versions of the past and future similarly to how Hiro and the others did.

1 How Much Will Heroes Reborn Influence The Plot?

Will Heroes: Eclipse incorporate it into the canon, or forget about it?

As a miniseries, Heroes Reborn might have been a series outside the general canon of Heroes if not for its interaction with the original characters. Despite this, one of the biggest complaints against Heroes Reborn was that it didn't use the returning characters well. Part of the reason it was canceled was because viewership was so low. This meant even diehard fans weren't watching. While this was bad for Heroes Reborn, it could be great for the reboot, because it means that the new plot doesn't have to pick up where the 2015 series left off.

Tim Kring is indeed returning, and he was behind both of the original shows, but if he has the opportunity to tell a new story that only concerns itself with the first series, he should take it. Audiences are ready to accept that Heroes Reborn was a one-off narrative that doesn't have to hold tremendous weight within the entire canon. However, if Heroes Reborn is worked into the plot, it should be expanded upon and improved to appeal to new audiences.
