High on Life has a good range of weapons available for players to use, even if it is not straightforward as to how to gain those weapons immediately. Kenny is the main Gatlian in the game, and the one the players will likely use the most. That being said there are more weapons that can be acquired throughout the game to give players more variety and the ability to traverse more places.

High on Life is a new release available on Game in December 2022. The player weapons in this game are all able to talk and are referred to as “Gatlians” throughout the game. The Gatlians and their home planet have also been enslaved and abused by the G3 Cartel, much the same as humans have. This makes them a natural ally for the player character to make as they share a common enemy.

Kenny, the Main Weapon in High on Life

Upgraded Kenny in High on Life

Kenny is the first main Gatlian the player meets. Kenny is similar to a pistol, and the player will be reliant on Kenny to complete the first couple of missions in High on Life. Kenny also serves as the player’s narrator and guide, as he will give helpful - or not - advice to the player throughout the game. Kenny is found very early in the game and is unmissable to anyone who makes it through the prologue on Earth.

Knifey, the Melee Choice

Knifey and Kenny in High on Life

Knifey is the only melee-weapon players will gain in High on Life. Kenny is necessary for opening Luglox chests. Knifey is also good for close-range combat, and he can one-shot many minion-type enemies. After meeting and forming a business alliance with Gene, he will send you to collect his knife and defeat 9-Torg. To find Knifey, the player will have to enter the Slums in Blim City.

Convince one of the door guards to let the player through, and fight off the insectoid enemies in the Slums. Further ahead, a fisherman can direct the player to the laundromat. Upon approach, the player and Kenny will overhear a conversation about a buyer. Kenny will more or less convince the sellers to let them in, and once allowed to inspect Knifey, stab both the sellers and Knifey will be equipped for the rest of the game.

Shotgun-style Gus

Gus the Shotgun in High on Life

Gus is a shotgun-like weapon that is very effective at short-range and can take out smaller enemies with one shot. However, he does have a much slower reload time, so it’s wise to pick up reload upgrades for him when possible. Gus also has a disc ability, which provides players in High on Life with more platforming potential and a formidable weapon. Discs can be used on any red-glowing wall to hook-shot onto, and when thrown at enemies, discs will stun them for a moment and can be ricocheted back at the enemy several times with well-timed knife uses.

Gus can be found as part of the Krubis bounty. This is the first main bounty of High on Life and will gain the player 1500 Pesos. Krubis is on a jungle-like planet, and players will have to traverse the jungle and find Krubis’ coordinates and a Warp Disc to fight Krubis. Once the player has defeated Krubis and collected the evidence for the bounty, they can pick up Gus and rescue him by removing the obedience implant.

Sweezy, The Assault Rifle with Crystal Ammo

Acquiring Sweezy in High on Life

Sweezy is a Gatlian that resembles an Assault Rifle. She has fast, slightly lower damage rounds. Her rounds also leave crystals embedded into enemies, which can be detonated to deal more damage. Sweezy’s ability is a time bubble, which slows enemies and objects within that bubble. It gives the player platforming options as well as the ability to slow enemies. Sweezy also features a charged shot. This shot can damage enemies behind cover, detonate crystals, and deal a higher-damaged shot. This makes Sweezy a very good gun to have throughout High on Life.

Sweezy, one of the more sassy Gatlians in High on Life, can be acquired during the Douglas Bounty. After a player has infiltrated the G3 base, they will have to watch part of an orientation video. During this video, Kenny will spot Sweezy in Douglas’ possession. The player must continue through the mission and confront Douglas to gain Sweezy. Douglas is a challenging opponent, moving quickly and causing environmental hazards. When the fight is over, Douglas’ DNA must be collected, before the player will pick up Sweezy and convince her to help them for the rest of High on Life.

The Explosive Creature

Acquiring Creature in High on Life

Creature can be found back on Zephyr, during the bounty for the Skrendel Bros in High on Life. Creature is a bit of a grenade or rocket launcher, except instead of actual explosives Creature shoots his own children. These tiny creatures will rush forward and attack the enemies in their path, and they will also open doors and ages for you. An upgrade will allow them to give the player more health in High on Life as well. They are also useful in stunning enemies, as Creature’s special sends a special child that can mind control enemies at them.

Creature can be found part of the way through the bounty. After entering the space science center, the player should discover the weapons lab. To get to the weapons lab, there is a control room where two switches can be pressed. One opens a different lab and one opens the weapons lab where Creature is. Players can free Creature from the wires holding him and are able to use him for the rest of High on Life.

Lezduit, Lightning in a Bottle

Strongest Weapon in High on LIfe

Lezduit is a very powerful weapon capable of taking down whole squadrons of enemies with a lightning-like ability. Because of that, he is also not able to be used until the final mission of the game. To get him, players must proceed to the final boss fight of High on Life. Players will come across him during the bounty for Dr. Giblets, but Gene will need time to patch him up, and there is a story mission and another bounty before the end of the game. That being said, Lezduit will make the final mission much easier and players will enjoy zapping aliens left and right.

These six weapons are currently the only weapons in the game. That being said, they are each quite powerful and useful. There are also strong narrative beats involving the Gatlian history that is closely tied with the current situation the humans find themselves in. Players will find out more as they discover each weapon. There is surprising depth to the Gatlian's backstory in High on Life, even if their commentary has divided fans. High on Life may not have as many weapons as other FPS games, but the weapons it does have are quite powerful and a little sassy.
