Yet, even without the romantic potential, Morgan and Karadec’s synergy while solving cases in High Potential is electric. Their history of great teamwork makes it all the more jarring when Karadec’s former partner appears in High Potential episode 12.

Special Agent Ronnie Oliver (Jocko Sims) previously worked at the LAPD as Karadec’s partner, and he stands in stark contrast to Morgan. Karadec itted to Morgan that he missed working with Ronnie, shortly after refusing to call Morgan his partner. Although the chips were stacked for some interpersonal conflict, High Potential episode 12 instead validates Morgan and Karadec’s partnership in the end. While High Potential episode 11 threatened Morgan’s future at the LAPD, she now knows for certain that she has a reliable partner in her corner.

Across the first 11 episodes of High Potential, Karadec has been an incredibly stoic, straight-laced character. Karadec has already shown he cares for Morgan, like when he decided to Selena Soto (Judy Reyes) to solve ’s Roman mystery, but he never outright tells her in words how he feels. Karadec’s brooding demeanor made Morgan’s friendliness come across as mere civility, though it was obvious from his actions that he reciprocated her camaraderie. Thankfully, High Potential episode 12 let Karadec both show and tell his true feelings.

After Ronnie insists that Karadec him at the FBI, promising to find a position so that they can be partners again, Karadec immediately turns it down. When he tells Morgan, she’s surprised he didn’t take time to think the offer through. Karadec simply says he didn’t have to think about it— he already has a partner. While still subtle, Karadec itting that he and Morgan are partners is a big step for their relationship, as it validates everything Morgan has said up to that point and sets them up to trust each other more implicitly.

They Started Off On The Wrong Foot

High Potential since the beginning, but they started on a hostile note. They had fundamentally oppositional views on how to go about investigating, with Karadec strictly adhering to police protocol and Morgan working by any means necessary, as long as it solves the crime. Aside from how she acted in reckless abandon, Karadec had preconceived notions about Morgan in High Potential due to her previous role as a cleaner. Though she quickly proved his misconceptions wrong, it took a second for their clashing personalities to mesh.

Now that High Potential season 2 has officially been confirmed, the future is bright and filled to the brim with potential new storylines.

However, Morgan and Karadec discovered their own rhythm in High Potential season 1. Morgan has begun to follow the rules against her wildest whims, and Karadec has grown to appreciate her unorthodox practices. Karadec even issues a challenge to Ronnie in High Potential episode 12 that puts the LAPD’s involvement in the case at risk, but it relies solely on Morgan’s ability to crack the case. Karadec may conceal his emotions, but he has total faith in Morgan that he reveals one gesture at a time— from her desk to her fake badge to calling her “partner.”

They're Professional Partners

High Potential episode 12 may have exposed Karadec’s soft spot for Morgan, but that doesn’t mean they should rush into a relationship. High Potential season 2 officially confirmed, the procedural has ample time to flesh out Morgan and Karadec’s relationship and let the romance bloom organically.

Even still, Morgan and Karadec’s romance should take a backseat in High Potential season 2. There are enough unresolved storylines and potential plots to expand upon already, like ’s potential LAPD villain or the still-unsolved disappearance of Morgan’s first husband. High Potential letting Morgan and Karadec’s professional relationship develop is the best way to ensure their romantic relationship feels earned, not rushed. Nonetheless, Karadec plainly showing how much he values Morgan was a great shift in his character and the perfect resolution to High Potential episode 12.
