Twisters (2024), and his time as a leading man in Hollywood is set to continue with a number of exciting projects.

THR now reports that Homewreckers, Powell's next project, has landed at Legendary after an enthusiastic bidding war between studios. In addition to the story for the film itself, the package includes an unpublished three-chapter story from Neil M. Paik. Homewreckers, which is described as an "erotic thriller with a sci-fi twist," is reported to have sold to Legendary for a seven-figure sum, with an additional seven figures for Paik to pen the screenplay.

Legendary is said to have outbid other major studios like Warner Bros. Sony, Lionsgate, and New Regency, with the bidding ultimately coming down to Legendary and Lionsgate after first getting started in the mid-six figures. The THR report also notes that the tone for Homewreckers is described as a cross between the works of Adrian Lyne (Fatal Attraction) and Alex Garland (Ex Machina, Annihilation). Powell will both produce the film and star in it.

After a handful of hits, Powell has become one of the most recognizable actors of a new generation in Hollywood. Anyone But You, the R-rated rom-com that saw him starring opposite Sydney Sweeny, earned mixed reviews, but was a major box office hit, earning $220 million worldwide. Hit Man was also a win for Powell, with the Richard Linklater film scoring positive reviews and earning Powell his first Golden Globe nomination. Twisters, too, was a success, putting Powell front and center alongside Daisy Edgar-Jones in a more traditional summer blockbuster.

With Homewreckers becoming a hot property in Hollywood, Powell is cemented as a major movie star. The erotic thriller is also one of several high-profile projects the actor has coming up. Powell is set to star in Edgar Wright's The Running Man remake, and he's also attached to an untitled J.J. Abrams movie alongside Jenna Ortega. Top Gun 3 is also in the works, with Powell expected to return if and when that movie gets going.

Top Gun 3 is said to be in the script stage, but Tom Cruise's busy schedule means that it could be quite a while before Powell gets to return as Hangman.

If another notable young star can be secured for the movie, Powell could end up repeating the success of his recent projects.

Though it's said that there are fewer true movie stars these days that can open a movie on their star power alone, Powell certainly seems to be positioning himself as one of these figures. So far, it's been working, and audiences do seem to be responding to him. Homewreckers, then, is shaping up to potentially be another success for this new Hollywood star.
