Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores doesn't just bring a new map, new characters, and a new romance opportunity to the table - five new legendary armors have also made their way into the game, giving Aloy a handful of fresh and exciting wardrobe options. Thanks to the transmog system, these outfits can be used for function, fashion, or both; but whether players are concerned about stats or style, there are some options that are certainly better than others. In order to be the most powerful and the best dressed, Aloy should stick to the Burning Shores DLC's best armor, and avoid the worst.

In addition to the five new outfits, players can also gain access to seven new dyes. Calm Shoals, Twilight Waves, Crimson Coast, and Dark Current can all be purchased from the Dyer in Fleet's End. Seagrass Swell and Imperial Gold are unlocked by completing the "In His Wake" and "The Splinter Within" quests, respectively, whereas the Blacktide dye was only available as a pre-order bonus for Burning Shores. Fashion-forward players will definitely want to get their hands on these complimentary color combinations, but they'll likely be even more interested in the best new legendary armor in Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores.

5 Nora Lookout

A snapshot of the Dyer screen looking at Aloy's Nora Lookout outfit in the Burning Shores DLC.

Nora Lookout might look familiar to those who have played Horizon Zero Dawn, as this armor set is a fun callback to the first entry in the series. Just like before, Aloy wears a lightweight garb adorned with furs, bits of machine, and a blue-green color scheme. Aesthetically, it's the most unique of all the new armor in Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores DLC, as it uses clean, simple lines and earthy tones to give the player a bit of extra camouflage (if only for the looks). The base stats for the Nora Lookout armor are as follows:

Resistance Type

Base Resistance

Melee

30

Impact

40

Fire

35

Frost

-40

Shock

30

Purge

35

Acid

Plasma

Although its appearance might earn it some points with longstanding fans who deem its inspiration one of the best Horizon Zero Dawn outfits, Nora Lookout is sadly the worst of the bunch when it comes to performance. As a Survivor set, it's mostly geared toward defense and healing, and it grants Aloy +2 Medicine Capacity, +1 Potent Medicine, +1 Potion Proficiency, and +1 Low Health Regen. These perks can absolutely come in handy, but only situationally. It can be purchased for 2,000 Metal Shards and 8 Brimshine at the Stitcher in Fleet's End, but players are probably better off choosing one of the other new outfits in the Burning Shores DLC.

4 Quen Deadeye

A snapshot of the Dyer menu, focused on Aloy's Quen Deadeye outfit in the Burning Shores DLC

In contrast to Nora Lookout, the Quen Deadeye armor is more thematically in line with the expansion, obviously taking a lot of inspiration from the Quen tribe. Aloy will get to know the Quen and one of its former in particular during her journey, so it only makes sense that she'd start to adapt to their ways. Quen Deadeye has her dressed in a lightweight white smock, which is decorated with accents of coral orange and blue-gray. However, it's her helmet that stands out the most, as it features a long, red panache. The base stats for the Quen Deadeye armor are as follows:

Resistance Type

Base Resistance

30

Impact

While the plume protruding from Aloy's helmet might make it seem like a poor choice for stealth, the Quen Deadeye outfit is actually an Infiltrator set. It grants players +2 Low Profile, +1 Stealth Ranged+, +1 Stealth Tear+, and +1 Concentration+. This makes it a great choice for those who like to stay in the shadows and make the most of their Hunter Bows. In of total resistance, the Nora Lookout armor and the Quen Deadeye armor both sit at a favorable 125, but the latter has the upper hand thanks to the far more advantageous nature of its perks. It can be earned by completing "The Splinter Within" quest.

3 Quen Commander

A snapshot of the Stitcher menu, focused on Aloy's Quen Commander outfit in the Burning Shores DLC.

The Quen are Horizon Forbidden West's most interesting tribe, and it continues to show with the Quen Commander outfit. In this look, Aloy adorns a slightly heavier set of armor that is seemingly reinforced with small bits of metal and machine. This gives it a more structured, streamlined look than the other new outfits in the Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores DLC, however, it maintains the same default Quen color scheme of white, blue-grey, and coral. The base stats for the Quen Commander armor are as follows:

Resistance Type

Base Resistance

Melee

30

Impact

35

Fire

-40

Frost

30

Shock

30

Purge

Acid

The Quen Commander armor is a step up from the previous entries, with a total resistance of 130. It offers a pretty impressive set of skills too, with +2 Energized Duration, +1 Resonator Buildup, +1 Resonator Blast+, and +1 Resonator Damage. Unsurprisingly, this Warrior set is geared towards a close-range combat style. Those who enjoy striking their enemies down with a dramatic resonator blast will get plenty of use out of the Quen Commander outfit in Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores. It can be purchased for 2,000 Metal Shards and 8 Brimshine from the Stitcher in Fleet's End.

2 Blacktide Quen Commander

A snapshot of the Dyer screen, focused on Aloy's Blacktide Quen Commander outfit in the Burning Shores DLC.

As its name would imply, the Blacktide Quen Commander armor is almost identical to the Quen Commander armor. Structurally, it's exactly the same, with the only difference being that its colors are sleek black and gold. This is a small difference on paper, but in-game, it's hard to deny that the shift is drastic, and it makes Aloy stand out among the bright, vibrant colors of the Burning Shores archipelago. The base stats for the Blacktide Quen Commander armor are as follows:

Resistance Type

Base Resistance

Melee

30

Impact

35

Fire

-40

Frost

30

Shock

30

Purge

30

Acid

40

Plasma

-25

When it comes to stats and performance, the Blacktide Quen Commander outfit is once again identical to its non-Blacktide counterpart, having the same resistance power and a set of skills to match. As long as players aren't afraid to face the new machines in the Burning Shores DLC face-to-face, they can simply pick the set that's more appealing to the eye. However, only those who pre-ordered the expansion will be able to unlock the Blacktide Quen Commander armor in Horizon Forbidden West. It can be purchased for one Metal Shard from the Stitcher in Fleet's End.

1 Quen Marine

A snapshot of the Dyer menu, focused on Aloy's Quen Marine Outfit in the Burning Shores DLC.

The best outfit in the Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores DLC is Quen Marine. Stylistically, this set of armor is probably the most in line with the Quen tribe and their traditional wear. Aloy wears lightweight pants, a breathable pair of sandals, an assortment of tassels, and a breathtaking chest piece made of coral and glistening shells. It truly makes a statement, and it's thus the best-looking outfit added with Burning Shores. Applying various dyes can really bring out its unique flair, too. The base stats for the Quen Marine armor are as follows:

Resistance Type

Base Resistance

Melee

34

Impact

50

Fire

38

Frost

-40

Shock

33

Purge

35

Acid

35

Plasma

-38

Not only does it deliver stylistically but also statistically. The Quen Marine armor has a total resistance of 147, which is on par with the powerful Nora Thunder Warrior armor from the base game. As an Infiltrator set, its skills include +2 Concentration+, +1 Deep Concentration, +1 Concentration Regen, and +1 Stamina Regen - an undeniably powerful combination, especially for taking out enemies with a Hunter Bow and clean, precise shots at range. It can be purchased for 2,000 Metal Shards and 8 Brimshine from the Stitcher in Fleet's end, but this is a small price to pay for the best new outfit in Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores.
