One of the more important side gigs in Cyberpunk 2077 is the "I Fought the Law" quest, which will require V to investigate the mayor's death. The gig is given by Elizabeth Peralez, and she wants to get to the bottom of the murder of Night City's mayor. However, to do this job, you must first complete the "Life During Wartime" main quest as it is a prerequisite. Once you have completed the main quest, you will get a call from Elizabeth, who will then ask you to meet her in The Glen of the Heywood District.
Completing the "I Fought the Law" side gig is highly recommended as it later blossoms into an elaborate questline that could let V romance Detective River Ward. Once you are on your way to meet Elizabeth, her husband, Jefferson, will give you a Braindance recording that will allow you to solve the mayor's murder.

How To Solve The "I Fought The Law" Braindance
Players Must Follow The Clues In The Recording
After getting your hands on the Braindance, you will need to solve the mayor's assassination by finding clues in the video using Cyberpunk 2077's analysis mode. During the Braindance, you must look for clues at the following timestamps: 00:15, 01:00, and 01:02. Here are the clues you need to keep a look out for during those specific times:
Timestamp |
Clue |
---|---|
00:15 |
Listen to the mayor's conversation with the deputy. |
01:00 |
This is a visual clue; look for Péter Horváth entering the premises at the security gate. |
01:02 |
Check the CCTV by the security gate and scan the Cyberpsycho. |
Once you have collected all the clues, V will have a chat with Jefferson, after which they will get Detective River Ward's details. Schedule a meeting with the detective and meet him at Chubby Buffalo's Bar-B-Q.
How To Finish "I Fought The Law" Quest
Follow The Straightforward Quest Markers To Complete The Task
At the bar, River Ward will discuss his plans and leads with V, after which they will ride in his car to visit River's CI at an adult toy shop. After some aggressive questioning, continue following River to the Japantown Market, where a lead named Christine Markov works.
If you have trouble finding her, ask nearby vendors about where Christine's food stall is located. Eventually, you will be confronted by two hostile Tyger Claw . If you chose Street Kid as your life path, you will have a dialogue option to conclude the confrontation without violence.
The final task of "I Fought the Law" in Cyberpunk 2077 involves searching for the Queen's Red Race in a large warehouse with River Ward. Here, you must fight through a group of Animals guarding the premises. No puzzles or complex decisions are required for clearing the warehouse other than following yellow quest markers.

Cyberpunk 2077’s Best Secret Side Quests
Even experienced edgerunners may have missed the best side jobs in Cyberpunk 2077, as players will need to go out of their way to notice them at all.
However, you can spare the Elite Animal member to gain additional information about the case. Regardless, this step is not necessary for the quest. After confronting Detective Han with River, you must return to Elizabeth Peralez in her home to report the investigation's results.
All The Rewards For "I Fought The Law" Quest
Collect Some Loot And Unlock Followup Quest
After leaving the building, the "I Fought the Law" quest will be complete. Finishing the quest awards players with 11,580 Eddies, the in-game currency system used by Cyberpunk 2077. The player is also rewarded with a Peralez poster that can be used to decorate V's apartment. Players also have the chance to slightly change the outcome of the mission by picking up a hidden Brain Dance wreath from the mayor's private booth before continuing the quest. This will give V enough evidence to present the case when the time comes.
Regardless of which path players take to get to the end of the quest, completing "I Fought The Law" will unlock the next mission in the questline, "The Hunt," after 24 in-game hours. This allows players to continue the storyline from Cyberpunk 2077 that gives them the option to romance River, so it's worth pursuing for anyone interested in that aspect of the title.
