In addition to deg their avatars and making Communities, app turned its attention towards emoji reactions and released that for all s in May 2022. Following emoji reactions, WhatsApp revealed new privacy features for s, allowing them to hide their online status and leave groups silently.
However, WhatsApp Polls has been one of the most sought-after features. As the name suggests, WhatsApp Polls allow people to survey all group participants and know their views. The steps for creating a WhatsApp poll are the same across all platforms. To create a poll, open a chat, tap the 'Attach' button (represented by a paper clip icon on Android/Web and plus icon on iOS), and select 'Poll.' Now, enter the main topic of the poll under 'Question' and enter the possible responses under 'Options,' similar to how polls work on WhatsApp's sister platform Instagram. To change the order of the responses, hold and drag the hamburger icon to the desired position.
WhatsApp Polls Allow Participants To Select Multiple Responses
Once done, tap 'Send' in the top right corner (iOS) or the arrow in the bottom right corner (Android and Web) to float the poll in the chat, where WhatsApp presents it as a message with the question and available responses. Upon creation, the poll is open to everyone in the conversation, and participants can cast their vote by tapping on an option. To check the poll details, tap on the 'View Votes' at the bottom of the message card, which opens the 'Poll Details' section. This section also shows individual participants' responses.
Note that the poll results are available to all the s in the group chat. While creating a poll, s can add up to 12 options. Further, those who are casting their vote can select more than one option, change their answer, or remove it entirely, without any record. WhatsApp updates the poll card with each response, which shows the cumulative results. Although WhatsApp released the Polls feature for s in November 2022, rival platform Telegram has had the feature for years.
Before WhatsApp Polls came out, people used to rely on third-party links or message reactions for conducting a poll in group chats. The feature entered development in April 2022 when WhatsApp tested it with a few beta s. However, it took seven months for the app to release the feature for regular s. Currently, WhatsApp Polls is available for s on iOS, Android, and WhatsApp for Web/Desktop.
