The protagonist in Persona 5 Royal is key to the Phantom Thieves of Hearts' goals, and keeping his HP as high as possible is key to beating the game. When he loses all HP in battle, it's an automatic game over. This will cost players some progress, especially if they haven't saved in a while. However, players have a better chance at surviving battles if they increase Joker's maximum HP for tougher enemies.

One way to prevent this situation is to increase Joker's maximum HP, alongside maximizing the stats of Personas in P5R. As a result, he has a better chance of surviving battles. Persona 5 Royal offers players a variety of ways to increase his health in battle. One such way is to equip accessories, such as the Warden's Baton. This item, in particular, provides the Life Rise ability, which increases a character's maximum HP by 40%. This is part of the DLC items added for free and is included in the box from home. In addition, other armors are acquired from "Sooty" equipment that can be washed in the laundromat near Café Leblanc. These items offer an increase by a fixed amount instead of a percentage.

How To Increase Joker's Maximum Health Using Gear & Working Out

Most notably, exercise in Joker's room or the Protein Lovers Gym in the Shibuya District Central Street also increases maximum HP. The first exercise activity opens up in the game's first month after getting a chance to clean the room, and Morgana brings it up. This will only increase his max HP, but it is a start in the quest to build up Joker in Persona 5 Royal. The gym opens only when Ryuji's confidant rank is about to reach rank 5, where he will mention that he found a spot to train. So hang out with him to go there and open it up as an activity. Training at the gym costs ¥2,000 each time but provides more benefits than just working out for free at home.

Working out using any of the two methods allows Joker to increase his max HP in Persona 5 Royal. However, working out at Protein Lovers will also add an amount of SP. Each time he works out, he will gain a set amount of max HP. Both of these activities will advance time for the player, so it's important to balance working out with deadlines. Advancing confidant ranks with Sadayo Kawakami will help with this endeavor greatly since her ultimate benefit allows for extra time in the evening after visiting the Metaverse. If Joker uses a Protein, Wet Protein, or Foreign Protein, he will gain additional HP and SP if he works out in the gym. After every four workouts, the benefits will increase slightly, whereas, for home workouts, Joker will gain extra HP every session to a max of eight after 12 workouts. For gym workouts, two additional HP are gained by Joker after every four workouts, plus an additional amount of SP.

All of this preparation will help Joker survive for much longer in many of Persona 5 Royal's more challenging battles, particularly against some of the game's later bosses or Persona 5 Royal's Reaper that lurks in Mementos. Aside from the base game content, the third semester that can be unlocked will also provide a new Palace to test the player's mettle.
