The Hulk has gone up against some of the most challenging adversaries during his time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Played by Mark Ruffalo, the Green Goliath has been involved in a few of the most memorable clashes in the MCU. However, not all are ed for being epic showdowns with evenly matched opponents on each side. A few were one-sided beatdowns where one character never had a chance.
Thanks to his large presence in the MCU, the Hulk has delivered some great action sequences to the big screen. In total, Bruce Banner has appeared in seven movies set in the MCU (if his cameo in Avengers: Endgame, it appeared that his smashing days were over.
If Avengers 5), audiences may have the seen the last of the Jade Giant beating up on powerful villains and his fellow superheroes. Even so, the Hulk has already been in his fair share of fights. Here’s every character Hulk has fought in the MCU and who won.
Abomination
After taking a failed version of the government’s attempt to recreate the super soldier serum, Tim Roth’s Emil Blonsky went up against the Hulk – but with disastrous results. Following an ugly beating, he transformed into the monstrous Abomination, the Hulk’s biggest villain in Marvel Comics. At the end of the movie, the two engaged in a heated fight, with each character pounding the other with every thing they had. As strong as Abomination was, he still wasn’t strong enough. Hulk – whose comic book counterpart has earned the title of “the strongest one there is” – overpowered Abomination and beat him until he could no longer stand. Though brutally beaten, Blonsky was able to live to see another day, which leaves the door open for a rematch at some point in the future.
Thor
The Hulk found himself at odds with a character whose power wasn’t too far away from his own in Thor (Chris Hemsworth), who was supposed to be one his new teammates. Thor was trying to get Hulk under control while on the Helicarrier, but it was a bit more difficult than what he expected. Thor got in some good hits, but Hulk held the upper hand through most of the fight. Since the fight was interrupted, no clear winner could be determined, but it’s important to note that Hulk was winning. It’s hard to say if Thor would have been able to turn the tide.
Loki
When defeat started to look imminent for the Chitauri, Loki (Tom Hiddleston) was paid a visit by Hulk. Due to his status as a god, Loki talked down to Hulk and yelled at him. Much to his shock, Hulk responded by grabbing him. Loki had no chance to fight back as he was repeatedly slammed against the ground and treated like a ragdoll by his much larger and more vicious attacker. What Hulk did to Loki in The Avengers stands out as one of the character’s best moments, and it’s a scene that has apparently remained etched in Loki’s mind. The God of Mischief wasn’t at all pleased to see him when he spotted him in the Grandmaster’s gladiator pit on Sakaar.
Hulkbuster Iron Man
Another Avenger vs. Avenger battle occurred in the Hulkbuster, Iron Man was able to match Hulk physically, but despite his added power, the Green Goliath still wouldn’t go down. In fact, Hulk was made even angrier by Iron Man’s attacks. It seemed like Iron Man couldn’t win until a building collapsed on them. The flow of battle was interrupted, and while Hulk was taking a moment to regain his senses, Iron Man took him out with a sucker punch.
Thor (Rematch)
Hulk and Thor’s rivalry didn’t end with The Avengers. It was revisited in Thor’s full power was unlocked. Just when it seemed that Thor might win, the Grandmaster cheated in Hulk’s favor by triggering the device in Thor’s body. The scene cut away just before Hulk could strike, and what ultimately happened between them was never revealed on-screen. Thor claimed he won, but because of his ego, his word on this matter may not be trustworthy.
The Fenris Wolf
In Marvel Comics, the Fenris Wolf is a giant Asgardian monster prophesized to cause the destruction of Asgard. In Thor: Ragnarok, he was adapted to the MCU through CGI and as a weapon of Cate Blanchett’s Hela. During the movie’s final battle, the Fenris Wolf was attacked by Hulk on the Bifrost Bridge. The wolf was so powerful that its fangs pierced through flesh that had withstood missiles, but a devastating punch from the Hulk sent it tumbling down a waterfall, presumably to its death.
Thanos
In Avengers: Infinity War, the Hulk took it upon himself to fight Thanos (Josh Brolin), who seemed amused at the prospect of fighting him. At this point, Hulk was commonly regarded as the strongest existing character in the MCU, but Thanos took that title away from him in the span of a few seconds. Hulk barely had a fighting chance against Thanos, who took him down with relative ease. What’s most unfortunate about this is that Hulk’s most humiliating defeat was also his last fight in the MCU.
