WARNING! This article contains SPOILERS for Wedding Season on Hulu. When the series creator for Hulu's Wedding Season, Oliver Lyttelton sat down with TV Insider, he explained, "the best episodes of TV shows are wedding episodes." His pitch for the series was, "Let's do a show where all the episodes are wedding episodes, and then they'll all be the best." By seamlessly blending the genres of mystery, action, and romantic comedy, Wedding Season provides a series of surprises from its charming and relatable cast.

From a poetry-wielding detective to a doe-eyed runaway bride, the series features a wide range of likable characters with various interests, motives, and complicated backstories. As the mystery slowly unravels, the likability of the main characters changes with the story.

Metts

Jade Harrison as Metts in Wedding Season on Hulu

Metts is introduced as a stern but fair police detective looking into the murder of the Delaney family, but as the series goes on, her true motives are revealed, and she commits unforgivable betrayals on some of the most likable main characters.

There are moments where Metts appears vulnerable, caring, and determined to do what's right, but it's all a smokescreen. While other higher-ranking criminal characters are implicitly more corrupt, and guilty of grander schemes off-screen, the complete turnaround of Metts' character makes her far less likable, especially since she deceived her partner, Donahue, in more ways than one.

Hugo

George Webster as Hugo Delaney and Rosa Salazar as Katie in Wedding Season.

The vain and simple-minded Hugo is not quite as evil as his father, Mr. Delaney, or even his Uncle Fred. His superficial nature might be a product of the privilege he was born into, but it's difficult to find a redeeming quality in this shallow character.

One of the first impressions of Hugo is Stefan's blatantly honest, drug-addled knee-jerk description of him, based on his college memories of how poorly Hugo treated Suji's sister when they were dating. Stefan is typically a great judge of character, who tries to find people's positive qualities, so his jarring reaction to hearing about Hugo's relationship with Katie instantly diminishes Hugo's likability.

Katie

Rosa Salazar as Katie in Wedding Season on Hulu.

Even when Stefan is deeply smitten with Katie, and she seemingly reveals the details of her intricate plan, she continues to hold back. While her powers of deception and tragic backstory make her a very compelling character, her disregard for people's feelings, and inability to take ability for her actions, make Katie very unlikeable.

As Metts continues to go down a darker path, Katie appears to turn towards the light, by trying to negotiate solutions that will lead to the least amount of violence and horrific repercussions. However, her previous penchant for lying with direct eye makes it hard to trust that there aren't more tricks up her sleeve, as she seems too skilled at avenging her father's death.

Jackson

Gavin Drea as Stefan and Omar Baroud as Jackson in Wedding Season on Hulu.

Jackson prefers non-monogamous relationships, which is entirely his prerogative. However, by stringing along his boyfriend, instead of communicating his true feelings, and by celebrating Suji after she slept with a married man, Jackson leaves a trail of harm and heartbreak in his path.

He doesn't hesitate to confess to the cops that he gave drugs to Stefan prior to him performing an emergency tracheotomy, even at the possible expense of his friend losing his medical license or going to jail. While Jackson is able to make valid points that many of his friends gloss over, his careless actions make him only slightly more likable than Katie, because he isn't as vindictive.

Anil

Bhav Joshi as Anil and Gavin Drea as Stefan in Wedding Season on Hulu.

Anil has a tendency to overthink little details, which irritates everyone around him, especially his patient fiancé Leila, who does everything she can to avoid tedious discussions about planning their wedding. While his anxiety transforms into a bizarre display of thoughtfulness at his one-of-a-kind wedding, the needless discussions about it make up most of his character.

Once his wedding is behind him, Anil finally utilizes his detail-oriented mind for important story progression, such as figuring out how Stefan and Katie can try to subdue Metts, which makes him a likable and vital member of the team.

Stefan

Gavin Drea as Stefan in Wedding Season on Hulu.

Stefan starts out as a likable hopeless romantic, who is deeply loyal to his group of college friends, because of his shaky upbringing in foster care. He confidently chooses his own family, but his love interests often cloud his judgment to make good decisions.

Although he comes across as naive at first, it is slowly revealed that Stefan has been going to extreme lengths to follow Katie on her risky mission, even when he wasn't fully aware of what she was trying to accomplish. By prioritizing a new love interest over his best friend's bachelor party, Stefan loses a few likability points, but he is redeemed by his heroic, yet deeply dangerous story arc.

Suji

Gavin Drea as Stefan and Ioanna Kimbook as Suji in Wedding Season on Hulu.

Unlike Jackson, Suji wants to have a committed relationship, even though she takes a long and misguided path to get there. When she tries to pick someone simply for the sake of picking them, she makes the cringe-worthy mistake of flirting with a teenager, then pivots in the complete opposite direction by pursuing a senior citizen.

Suji's journey to love is riddled with complications, but when her friends like Stefan and Jackson open her eyes to an entirely new possibility, she is finally able to find someone who makes her happy. But then she follows Jackson's example and ghosts her. Suji's love story isn't perfect, but her persistence and loyalty to her friends make her very likable since audiences tend to root for the underdog.

Leila

Callie Cooke as Leila with Bhav Joshi as Anil and Gavin Drea as Stefan in Wedding Season on Hulu.

While most of her friends struggle to find their paths in love and life, Leila grounds the cast with her sensibility, patience, and understanding nature. Despite the fact that Stefan skips out on her fiancé Anil's bachelor party, almost misses their wedding, and goes on the run with Katie, Leila is able to forgive Stefan for his wild antics and calls the police in order to save him from imminent danger.

Leila's friends get wrapped up in their own issues, while she saves the day, and continues to represent Stefan as his personal lawyer. Leila provides solutions for a variety of problems, but does it out of the kindness of her heart, not for recognition. Her refreshing humility makes her more likable than most of the action-packed ensemble cast.

Mitzi

She only appears in a few episodes, but Mitzi leaves a lasting impression as someone who knows what she wants and is willing to go to great lengths to get it. As the daughter of a crime boss, Mitzi is accustomed to a lavish lifestyle, full of custom-made wedding gowns and millions of Instagram followers. But unlike Hugo, Mitzi must make sacrifices.

Her father approves of her loving relationship with his female security guard but insists that she marry Wyatt, the son of another crime boss in Texas, in order to merge the families. Mitzi goes through with the wedding, but after she gets kidnaped, even under the threat of death, she negotiates an annulment, and the chance to start a life with her girlfriend. Her confidence and dedication make her one of the most likable characters.

Donahue

Jamie Michie as Donahue in Wedding Season on Hulu, holding photos of Stefan and Katie.

Although he tries to put on a "bad cop" persona by slinging around curse words, Donahue's multitudes include a vested interest in poet Pablo Neruda, and his affair with his partner, Metts, which shows his vulnerable side, and how much he cares for her.

Despite Donahue's extensive training as a detective, he misses some important details, because he is blinded by love. Watching him learn about Metts' betrayal is incredibly heartbreaking, and his relationship parallels the one between Stefan and Katie. While some characters abandon their principles in the name of love, Donahue follows the law, and he becomes more likable after facing a devastating loss.
