After a great year for fans of the hit adventure series Hunter X Hunter, it seems that 2025 might hold even better news for the franchise, as the chances of the anime coming back are higher than ever. With 2 months left until the confirmation of this unexpected rumor, fans are buzzing online at the prospect of the return of the anime after years of hiatus.
Anime Japan is one of the year's biggest anime conventions, alongside Jump Festa. Here, celebrities, studios, and many others from the anime industry convene to announce projects and share news with fans worldwide. While previous years were exciting, this year's is particularly stacked, and the rumors of Hunter x Hunter's return are the most exciting ones. The biggest reason these rumors hold weight is that Hunter x Hunter will be exhibited in a t booth of Nippon Animation and VAP, two of the producers of the 2011 anime.
Hunter x Hunter Sparks Solid Rumors of an Anime Reboot
Anime Japan 2025 Will Reveal Important News
On the website, the initials for Nippon Animation and VAP are listed along with an M, which is most likely Madhouse, the studio behind the anime. While this could just be promotional for the already existing anime and the selling of merchandise, the t booth's description hints at something much larger and more exciting. The exhibitors revealed that they will present information for currently broadcasting anime as well as series that are scheduled for the future.
While many fans are excited about the potential return of the anime, others have concerns. The 2011 anime concluded with the 13th Chairman Election arc, totaling 148 episodes and stopping at chapter 339 of the manga. With currently 70 manga chapters that have not been adapted, and Togashi's frequent breaks, some fans worry that there isn't enough source material to justify a revival, and there are also concerns about the possibility of filler episodes. However, since the anime typically adapts 2–3 chapters per episode, there is more than enough content for a two-cour season.
Given the extensive dialogue in the Dark Continent Expedition and Succession War arcs, it’s likely that the new season could have even more episodes, provided the studio remains faithful to the manga.
The Hunter x Hunter Manga's Future Is Bright
The Creator Is Hard At Work Making More Chapters
When Hunter x Hunter 2011 started, the Chimera Ant arc wasn't finished either, so fans who want to wait for the Succession War arc to end first before the anime returns should know that there is precedent. Furthermore, creator Yoshihiro Togashi is currently working hard on making more chapters, and he recently revealed that he is working on the drafts for the next 50 chapters. Even if the anime is announced, there will be some time before it is finished, and by then, there will be even more chapters to adapt. While only time will tell if the Hunter x Hunter anime will truly return, fans should know that either way, more content is coming.
