While Infinity Nikki is absolutely a game where players can dress Nikki up in beautiful outfits, compete in styling competitions, and search out more clothing and accessories, there is so much more to it than its sparkly dresses. The fifth installment in the Nikki series, it expands on the lore of its universe while offering platforming, puzzle solving, combat, and, of course, beautiful outfits to dress up in. The fact that it has become known only as a "dress-up game" is disappointing to me, given the thought-provoking story the game developers have woven into the narrative through cutscenes and quests.

The following article contains minor spoilers for the story of Infinity Nikki.Although Infinity Nikki certainly embraces its "girly game" aspects of dres in beautiful outfits and collecting as many accessories as possible, the story behind the magical world of Miraland that Nikki and Momo find themselves transported to is much more complex than just a game of styling clothes. Innocent people are falling into comas, wars and rumors of wars are circulating all around, and the god of the world, The Wishing One, may have even been killed by his helpers.

The Outfits Are Certainly A Quality Feature

Beginners to the game may be expecting a simple, cozy dress-up game with bright colors, cute animals, and stunning style choices. This is all true, of course, as Infinity Nikki certainly manages to be a wonderfully cozy experience in its majestic world where outfits can hold magical abilities. Even within the story itself, Nikki's overarching objective in Miraland is to find the Miracle Outfits as she was directed, in order to save the world. This mission could have easily been considered to be simply a forced mechanic to let the dress-up make sense, but the developers expanded on the idea and the world in incredible ways.

A player could spend hours simply competing in styling challenges and deg outfit combinations and be perfectly happy doing so, but they would be missing out on the depth that comes from this game's story.

Of course, there is no denying that the outfits are where Infinity Nikki shines. Even without spending real-world money on the gacha mechanics in the game, there are so many items to be either crafted, purchased, found, or earned that can be used to put together incredible outfits for Nikki. A player could spend hours simply competing in styling challenges and deg outfit combinations and be perfectly happy doing so, but they would be missing out on the depth that comes from this game's story.

Much More Complex Than I Had Expected From This Game

Prior to the game's release, Infinity Nikki's trailers left me wondering what the game would even be about, and whether it had anything beyond the ability to dress in cute outfits and hairstyles. It still looked fun and like something I wanted to play, but I didn't have incredibly high hopes for it hooking me for long periods of time.

Thankfully, I was very wrong in that assumption, as shortly after starting the game I found myself intrigued by the story it was presenting. I needed to know more about these miracle outfits, the Wishing One, what a Faewish Sprite is and more. Most of all, I found myself immediately curious at why people were falling into comas and how these magical Quick-Wish Bottles could cause that to happen.

A Bit Of Infinity Nikki's Story, Explained

Infinity Nikki is not the first in its series of games, yet its story takes place in an alternate time so players do not need to have played the other titles. The game begins when Nikki and Momo are exploring Nikki's mother's attic and find a magical dress that transports them to the world of Miraland. Clothing here can be wielded by Stylists, which are essentially the magic s of Miraland, to have unique powers.

During an encounter with a strange goddess known as Ena the Curator who has been imprisoned for thousands of years, Nikki has a special Heart of Infinity put inside her chest, with the guidance that Nikki must save the world. This is what starts Nikki and Momo on their magical journey, and gives Nikki all the magical abilities she needs to be the hero of this story.

While that initial sequence of events felt a bit strange to me at first, once Nikki gets to town, I found myself being drawn into the story. Hearing snippets of conversations, reading books left on tables, and ing the cause to solve the case of the strange comas, I kept wanting more.

This world seems to circulate on wishes, even with different areas having vastly different ideas of how the wishes work and who they can trust with their wishes. The Wishing One, their god of the past, was killed. Yet, how he was killed and by who seems to be a source of contention among his followers. Even the creepy little monsters in the world, known as Esselings, seem to have ties to wishes in this land.

So Many Questions Unanswered That Bring Me Back To The Game

Potential For Many Future Updates And DLC

I have been taking my time, savoring the story and fun challenges in Infinity Nikki and have not completed the story that is available in the game currently, although I have gotten far enough to see that it continues to deepen with its narrative regarding the darkness that the world holds. Even just seeing the social class distortions in the civilization of Piecey's presents an interesting view of how cultures can segregate those who are deemed less-than. In short, the lighthearted cozy game does not shy away from the negative and dark parts of a world.

We already know that Infinity Nikki plans to have several major additions. Customizable houses and islands have been teased by developers, and the Heartcraft Kingdom has many more regions that are yet to be explored. Likewise, the wars in lands of other nations such as Umbraso and the Empire of Light, will likely lead to these zones being opened up for Nikki to visit in the future, giving many new directions for the story to be taken.

I Hope Infinity Nikki's Developers Get To Tell More Of Their Story

Because I Want To Hear More

Simply from seeing the areas of the game that are not yet revealed, it is clear that the developers have a much larger story for Infinity Nikki than is yet provided. While the game may be getting most of its attention focusing on the gameplay of dress-up and the gacha mechanics included, the story is one that I would like to know more of, and I truly hope that the developers get to share their vision.

Currently, it looks like they will get that chance, with the game ing 10 million s in less than a week. Social media has seen many sharing their outfits of the day for Nikki or discussing how to accomplish certain tasks, showing that many have continued to enjoy the game. Not just the "girly game" audience either, but people of all ages and gameplay styles have found a lot of enjoyment in Miraland, and hopefully are enjoying the story of Infinity Nikki as much as I am.
