Before it even premieres season 1 on October 2, AMC’s Claudia (Bailey Bass) who Lestat also turns, along the way.
The original source text for the AMC series has been adapted before in 1994’s film Interview with the Vampire starring Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt. When the film adaptation was released, she commented that she would not have chosen Cruise as Lestat; she had always imagined Rutger Hauer playing him, but itted he was probably too old by the time the film was greenlit. Before her death in 2021, Rice changed her mind, comparing Cruise’s chilling performance to that of Olivier playing Hamlet. The film version received mixed reviews initially due to the lack of eroticism it featured, in comparison to the original books, The Vampire Chronicles. Thankfully it would appear that this is not the case with the new series, as the trailers and clips previously released for Season 1 focus on lust, love, and lots of blood. Anne Rice, is credited as an executive producer on the show.
As announced on the show’s Lives of the Mayfair Witches is also coming soon, with Alexandra Daddario cast in the lead role. This is predicted to arrive between seasons 1 and 2 of Interview but whether the shows will be canonically connected is not yet confirmed. This should be foreseen as potential, however, as AMC has acquired the vampire and witch crossover novels: Merrick, Blackwood Farm, and Blood Canticle.
What Will Interview With The Vampire Season 2 Be About?
There haven’t been many more details released concerning the anticipated season 2, all that is known so far is that it will be 8 episodes long and set in Europe. Showrunner Rolin Jones has promised that viewers will see locations like New Orleans, Bulgaria, Romania, Paris, San Francisco, and Dubai throughout the story, but where the vampires will travel per season is yet to be clarified. It is assumed that eventually, Interview with the Vampire will leave the confines of the first novel of The Vampire Chronicles franchise, exploring further tales such as The Vampire Lestat and The Queen of the Damned, the latter also received a movie version in 2002 which was critically panned.
The big risk of commissioning season 2 of Interview with the Vampire may show that AMC is confident in the show’s success but may also be due to the fact that they have invested so much money into this project already. The acquisition of that many books at once certainly isn’t cheap, so the showrunners will certainly want to try and bleed the source material as dry as possible. In all the excitement of Anne Rice’s work coming to AMC in a universe of dark and twisted sexuality and gore, it’s also best to remind audiences that lusty vampire tales can start off great but fade into obscurity if they wander too far off the beaten track. A great example of this would be True Blood, which ran itself into the ground after seven seasons, only to fizzle out with mixed . For now, the hope is that viewers will be seduced by this update on a well-loved tale, as Louis was seduced by Lestat.
