Louis and Claudia tried to get rid of Lestat in the season 1 finale.

Not only must Louis and Claudia keep their deeds in the past, but Daniel must reckon with whether he or his interview will ever see the light of day.

Interview With The Vampire season 1 ended with Louis and Claudia making an ambitious attempt at escaping Lestat from New Orleans after seeing no positive change in their dynamic. As a result, they resorted to murdering Lestat. As such, the pair used a ball to poison and slit Lestat's throat, outmaneuvering him and leaving him in the city dumps. However, Daniel is reluctant to accept that Louis left Lestat to rot, suggesting the vampire knowingly left the vampire somewhere he could recover and build up his strength.

Though Interview With The Vampire significantly alters the source material, many parts of the book must be in season 2 to fully capture the story.

However, Paris may not be the clean break Louis and Claudia hoped for, as Lestat's history comes to light through the Theatre des Vampire. Even before his own transformation by the vampire Magnus, Lestat had ties to the now covert Vampire-run business, and trailers for Interview With The Vampire season 2 have already teased that scenes between Armand and the supposedly deceased will feature in the new season. While Lestat's old stomping grounds may have Louis and Claudia wary, the new setting can also offer insight into Lestat's life and what shaped him into who he was.
