The next Hitman series) is working on Project 007There have been a number of James Bond video games released over the years, but the most famous is easily Goldeneye 007 on the Nintendo 64.

Goldeneye is often credited with popularizing the first-person shooter genre on consoles. There have been other James Bond games released since the '90s, Goldeneye. Despite Goldeneye's high quality, it was more of a shooter game and it didn't involve much espionage or spy work, which the James Bond franchise is known for. Since Goldeneye, there have been a number of assassin/spy games, including the Hitman series, which gives the player a number of options for completing missions. Hitman allows players to carefully plan their method of assassination, or go in guns blazing.

The worlds of James Bond and Hitman are coming together. Hitman 3 is coming to the PS5 in the future.

The official IO Interactive Twitter has some additional details. Project 007 includes an original story and won't be based on any of the films. It's an origin story about James Bond earning his 007 title. It's unclear whether the version of Bond will be based on any of the existing actors, like Daniel Craig, or whether the developers will go in a different direction and use an original look for the character.

The fact that Project 007 is being made by the Hitman team means that it will almost certainly be a stealth game, rather than an action one. The James Bond license has resulted in some awesome games over the years, and its setting is ideal for the video game format. It's an odd decision to go in an original direction with the story, as it means that it's unlikely to use established villains from the series. On the plus side, this means that Oddjob probably won't show up, and anyone who dealt with him in the multiplayer modes of Goldeneye knows what a blessing that is.
