The new the Lanterns TV cast. The Lanterns series recently kicked off production, as Hal Jordan and John Stewart's DCU introduction are on the horizon while fitting into the larger franchise.

Last week, ScreenRant took part in a new DCU press event with DC Studios' co-CEOS Peter Safran and Gunn being present, where they checked in on various movies and TV shows that are in the works, with Lanterns being one of them. In the case of Lanterns, Gunn praised the creative team leading the HBO drama while also seemingly teasing that Guy Gardner from the Superman movie will have some involvement with the series, as he and Safran stated the following:

James Gunn: Then finally, y'know, we have Lanterns, which we just started shooting with HBO and Warner Brothers, and that is another really marvelous team of Tom King, Damon Lindelof and Chris Mundy. And they have been doing marvelous work. I've been watching the dailies with that. It's really so cool because it is connected to Superman because we've got Guy Gardner in that, and then we've got these green lanterns over here. It's just such a different tone from what Superman is. And it's exactly what I want to bring to the DCU is being able to have these very different films and television series that are still part of an overall connected world, but have completely different feels to 'em.

Peter Safran: I will just say that we are incredibly fortunate to have Tom Chris and Damon Lindelof at the helm. Those guys are just masters. Aaron Pierre, magnificent, Kyle Chandler, amazing. We really are lucky. James Hawes is directing it.

What James Gunn's Lanterns Update Means For The DCU

While it was never revealed initially when the series was announced, many DCU fans assumed that Nathan Fillion's Guy Gardner would, in one way or another, get involved with Lanterns. Even though fans are getting to see him first in Superman, before they even meet Hal and John, Lanterns may establish what they are up to while Guy is in David Correnswet's film. Based on Gunn's tease, there will be connections between Superman and Lanterns, which is why it will be exciting to see how Guy fits into the HBO TV show.

What is also evident with Lanterns is that DC Studios is rectifying one of the biggest misses with the DCEU movie timeline, as they never tapped into the Emerald Knights during its decade-long run. The DCU is not only exploring the Green Lanterns this early in the DCU's run, but they are also bringing some of the most iconic characters of the DC mythology together for the first time in live-action. That shows that DC Studios is wanting to tap into the Green Lantern core and also let it shine.

Our Take On James Gunn's Lanterns Update

From everything Gunn stated about Lanterns, it is continuing to become one of the most highly-anticipated projects in the DCU. With the rich history of the Green Lantern mythology in the world of DC, there is so much that DC Studios will be able to bring to life over the next couple of years. As Lanterns continues filming, a first look will hopefully be shared in the near future.
