The final gameplay trailer for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor gives players a peek at a fight that looks set to recreate one of the most epic battles from 2003’s Star Wars: Clone Wars. Alongside more footage of Cal and Merrin fighting side by side and BD-1's new rockets was a boss battle that is going to be incredibly tough for players to survive.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is set five years after Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, and the galaxy is a very different place. While the power of the Empire has grown, on other worlds like Jedi: Survivor’s new planet of Koboh, gangs lead by powerful leaders have taken over instead. With new lightsaber stances, players will have more tools than ever to help Cal fight his enemies, but one, in particular, is set to push Cal to the limit.
Cal Is Set To Face A Terrifying Gen’Dai In Jedi: Survivor
One of the many factions Cal will face is based on Koboh, known as the Bedlam Raiders, who are led by Jedi: Survivor's new villain Rayvis. Rayvis is a member of a very rare species, Gen’Dai, only one which has ever been seen before in Star Wars. In fact, the last time a Jedi face off against a Gen’Dai, it was Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi in 2003's Clone Wars, and he barely escaped with his life. Whether Cal will fare any better remains to be seen.
Fans Of The Clone Wars Will Get A Kick Out Of Jedi: Survivor’s New Boss Fight
Speculation around Rayvis began since his first appearance during the gameplay trailer released at The Game Awards 2022. Theories surrounding him proved to be correct as he was confirmed as a Gen’Dai by Respawn's lead writer Danny Homan and cinematic director Dori Arazi during an interview with IGN. This sets the stage for players getting to relive one of the coolest battles from the Clone Wars mini-series.
Gen’Dai are truly terrifying enemies to face, as their unique physiology makes them nearly immortal. They don't have bones and exist as massive masses of muscle and nerve bungles, only able to keep humanoid shape due to the armor they wear. Because of this Gen'Dai are able to survive injuries that would kill most other Star Wars species meaning that Cal won't have an easy time with Rayvis in Jedi: Survivor.
During the Clone Wars episode “Chapter 8”, Obi-Wan Kenobi fought the Gen’Dai bounty hunter Durge on the planet Muunilinst. The battle was brutal, with Kenobi's lightsaber having little effect on the massive alien. Kenobi eventually left Durge for dead after cutting him in half, although the Gen'Dai was merely wounded, and in the next episode, revealed his full Gen’Dai form.
Gen'Dai are also able to shed their armor to use their body as tentacles, the beginnings of which can be seen in the Jedi: Survivor trailer as one of Rayvis' arms is a mass of nerves and muscle. This was another trick Durge used when he attacked Kenobi, who eventually ‘won’ the fight by exploding Durge using the Force. However, unbeknownst to Kenobi, the Gen’Dai survived, meaning players will have to think extremely tactically to take down Rayvis when they battle him in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.
