When the first trailer for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor revealed a familiar-looking new villain, fans immediately began speculating. Those who had watched the original 2003 Star Wars: Clone Wars micro-series pointed out that a large formidable enemy appeared very similar to a Gen'Dai. With the massive alien wearing an impressive-looking suit of armor, the imposing warrior looked a lot like a character named Durge, the only member of the Gen'Dai to have had any real attention in Star Wars canon.

In an interview with good news for Star Wars Clone Wars fans confirming that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor's new villain was indeed a Gen'Dai, but clarified that he was not Durge. While this might be disappointing for some, who were looking forward to seeing Cal Kestis face off against the famous bounty hunter, Jedi: Survivor's team has created a fascinating new character for fans to meet. In their interview, Arazi and Homan explained a little more about this new Gen'Dai villain, Rayvis, and what players should expect.

It is in the interview with IGN, Arazi and Homan first put a name new Cal's new enemy, Rayvis, who is to play an important role in the plot of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. With Rayvis' presence in the game, it offers a great opportunity to not only reintroduce the Gen'Dai to a whole new audience but also to provide more detail on who they are. Arazi and Homan hinted that Rayvis will play more of a role in the narrative than a cool new boss and maybe even offer an interesting contrast to Cal.

What Will Rayvis’ Role Be In Jedi: Survivor?

While there is no doubt that Rayvis will offer a challenge in of gameplay and battles, as Gen'Dai are incredibly difficult to kill, there is much more to this mysterious alien. As Gen'Dai are essentially immortal thanks to their regenerative abilities, it is possible Rayvis could be thousands of years old, something Star Wars Jedi: Survivor’s story could explore in detail. Rayvis is described by Arazi as having a tragic past while also possessing a code of honor that he adheres to.

Concept art shows Rayvis alongside a group called the Bedlam Raiders, whose armor matches his own. Arazi describes Rayvis as someone who is very confident in who he is and what he does in life. Coupling that with how the Gen'Dai are famed for their long lives and their ability to survive extreme injuries, it makes sense that Rayvis would be the leader of this group rather than just another lackey in Jedi: Survivor.

This will mean that Rayvis will be a much more intelligent enemy than others Cal might have faced before. A good comparison in of complexity would be Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order's Taron Malicos, whose story and fall to the dark side held a mirror up to Cal's own journey and showed what he could have become. Rayvis looked set to fulfill a similar role as Arazi points out, there are fascinating parallels between Rayvis and Cal, which the team were eager to explore.

Throughout the interview, Arazi and Homan both state the chivalrous nature of Gen'Dai and Rayvis. Although he may be Cal's enemy and the villain of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, it is clear that Rayvis does not see himself as the bad guy. Fans will have to wait until April 28, 2023, to meet this intriguing and nuanced new adversary.
