WARNING! This article contains SPOILERS for Wednesday season 2!Jenna Ortega refused to repeat her iconic dance from Wednesday season 2, part 1 will debut on August 6, 2025, while part 2 will be released on September 3, 2025. The cast will include Ortega reprising her role as Wednesday, Emma Myers as Enid, Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia, and other major returning stars. At Netflix's Tudum event, the streaming giant also announced that Lady Gaga will be playing the enigmatic Nevermore teacher Rosaline Rotwood in part 2.
At the event, Lady Gaga put on a Wednesday-themed show, featuring several songs from her newest album. The show eventually cut to Ortega and a group of look-alike dancers. While the dancers performed the moves that Ortega popularized in the iconic scene, Ortega stood firm and smirked at the camera. Instead of performing the dance, Ortega sat down at a long table, while Lady Gaga danced in front of her.
What Ortega's Refusal Means For Wednesday Season 2
Some Things Will Be Saved For The Season
Ortega's refusal to repeat her dance is a hint that season 2 will not be repeating everything that made season 1 so successful. After all, the season is set to see Wednesday leaving Nevermore Academy behind, as Wednesday season 1's ending saw her expelled from the school. While she is likely to return to Nevermore, given Lady Gaga's role as a Nevermore teacher, the show will not be repeating its plot. At the event, Netflix also featured a six-minute clip from season 2, which offers insight into the sophomore season's drastically different storyline:
The clip revealed that Wednesday will be traveling through Newark Airport to hunt down a rogue serial killer. It is not too dissimilar to the serial-killing plot from season 1, but the lack of a set school location is a significant change. Notably, Ortega's decision to avoid dancing is another indication that the show will likely avoid treading familiar ground, though it could simply be teasing another major performance later on. If Wednesday does dance again, the show could be saving the performance for a bigger reveal, given how popular the original was.
Our Take On Jenna Ortega's Refusal To Dance
Wednesday Remains An Elusive Show
The scene likely would not have been as engaging had Ortega decided to participate in the dance. It would have simply retreaded the original dance's ground, which would add some fanfare, but Lady Gaga's performance was already filled with fanfare. With Gaga now ing Wednesday season 2's cast, there is already reason for excitement. Ortega's decision only added humor to Tudum, which helped to provide some levity in a show that was filled with Netflix's surprising announcements. Her decision was a brilliant one that promises more adventures and more fun to come.
